My 039 is a big saw I’m not sure how it compares to a 660 but I’d say it’s very close! My Farm boss has lived on the back of my truck since I got it, rain, snow, whatever. It's so faded the white and orange look the same. Still starts and runs like the day I got it. The only thing I don't like about it, with the 20" bar on it, it's just a little smaller than my 660 with a 25" bar.
I was truly surprised when I set my brand new 660 down and it only looked a wee bit bigger than the 290.My 039 is a big saw I’m not sure how it compares to a 660 but I’d say it’s very close!
Remove the rest of the flocking, and put some scotchbrite pad over it, or if you want, cut it to fit the quarters, and hot glue in place, will filter fine.

Big saw......
Size you numpty, not power!
Yep- not a lot of real men know about such things- but when the missus buys a bag of those bags that go in that machine only they know how to run (vacuum cleaner) there is a sheet of filter material in there with them.
Now I am yet to meet the woman that actually changes those filters- sometimes her pet man will do it for her, but more often than not the filter sheets are binned when the bag is empty!
This is what I use in place of the scotchbrite and it seems to work and hold up near as well.
So what your saying is that you know your way around a vacuum cleaner
See Tom, thats how you do it.
I do! Plus I can cook.... even bake.
My Mum trained us well. ...... but I am still yet to find the woman that changes the filters on their own cleaner!
If you pay the airfare down, I'll buy dinner and beer, and introduce you to my wife. I'm not allowed to touch her vacuum. She changes the filters, puts on new drive belts and beater bars. If I could just get convince her to pull carbs for me?I do! Plus I can cook.... even bake.

I wash the air filters with ether. Then let them air dry. If we don’t wash off that oil film it will clog up sooner.
Every used saw I purchase I buy a new airfilter, sparkplug, rim and drum.
Is these score marks on the intake or exhaust side?
If on the intake side dirt got through the air cleaner.
I been taking saws apart and finding fine wood dust in the crankcase in the ball bearings. They can’t run on wood.
