I suppose those same people are the type that don't know, or care how a chainsaw chain cuts. If one is aware that the depth gauges (rakers) are what control the 'bite' of each cutter, then they would never forget to check/bring them down in height when sharpening the cutters.I really like my stihl 2 in 1 file set simply because I get the teeth and rakers in one shot. I'm surprised how many people don't know the rakers have to be maintained also.
I'm no pro either. But my chains cut well. Oh, and I ditched the cutter filing guides (Oregon) a few years ago. I'm actually getting better results now. As mentioned earlier, I also do believe the Oregon guides do not allow the file deep enough into the gullet.
