A lot depends on the size and make of chain you are wanting to file and the pressure and technique of your filing.
Lots of good names and brands have been mentioned already- but I am getting a good run out of some Carlton branded files of late- they were fairly cheap in the scope of file prices to boot.
That was the one brand I had thoughts to try that I hadn’t yet! That’s goodJust ordered some Bahco 1/8 and 5/32 files I will report how they work when I receive them. Thanks to all.

Which is which?Pferd makes coarser and finer lines of round files. One is better for material removal, and the other for a finer finish.
