well I finally had some time to head up to the new property and christen the new MS361. didn't cut anything large yet, biggest being 10" maybe, but there's so much small stuff to get through before I start the big ones, and I wanna get a little practice swingin that saw around.

So I strapped on the chaps, and other PPE, and fired it up (starts so easy, now that I'm used to it), man does this thing cut, it made easy work of the stuff I was cutting. I do have to get better on my notches, but I'll get there.

I'm very happy with the saw, it didn't use much bar oil though, I'm hoping that is the norm? when I ran out of gas, it had maybe 1/2 tank +- of bar oil left (i'm not really exactly sure how much was left I didn't look that close).

I know I'll be sore a little bit after swinging it around for a couple hours, body's not quite used to that yet, but it sure was fun :) looking forward to getting back for some more, and droppin some of the bigguns!

Thanks to everybody who provided their thoughts when I was looking for a saw to purchase, I'm very happy with the saw and know it'll last me a long time.

that is about right for bar oil consumption on a 20" bar

Just make sure to use sharp chains & you keep the oil in it,,, use your brand premix W/fresh 89 (min) octane gas and if ya change chains flip the bar over and make sure the bar oil passage is clean!!!!!!!!!!!

First, welcome
Great saw, you will really enjoy it the more you use it.

I like any saw to have very little oil left when its out of gas. 1/2 a tank is too much, needs more oil, better for the saw.

thanks I'll look into the oiling mechanism and see what I can do to adjust it or stop in at the shop I bought and ask. ;)

I'm telling you stihls are just slower look at this husky 350.

its only 49cc

buck

That Husky sounds a little throatier - like maybe a muffler mod?
Also sounds like he's running the 361 at about half throttle - that or the chain is really dull and he's loading the engine.

Phendyr, I'm running a 20" and just opened my oiler up all the way. Using a little more than 3/4 oil to a tank of fuel using Stihl bar oil.

Gee, what do you know about that! My three hundred and sixty-first post was on a 361.

That is quite normal on the 361, and nothing to worry about - but turn the oil output fully up, unless the bar is very short.

The Oiliomatic bar and chain system actually works.

the 361's sure do rip, this guy will show us what a 361 can do.

Warning this is a professional chainsaw.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwBM33DWujg

Now I see what all the hype is about.

Buck

Is this a joke? There are 2 scenarios possible:
1. The MS361 is an extremely bad performer.
2. The guy has turned the chain wrong, cuts with the rakers or whatever...

I go for number 2.

I don't think it originally was intended as a joke, but it sure is one - it has been discussed here earlier.....:givebeer: :givebeer:

Congrats on getting to run the new saw. I'm glad it put a grin on your face.

As the others have said, the 361 is stingy with oil. That's been discussed here before as well. I've run about 25 tanks through my almost new one and even though Ive got the oil adjuster turned all the way up, I still have almost 1/2 tank of oil when I stop to refuel. I've had no problems with the chain, it's getting plenty of lube.

What length bar do you have on yours?

That is the point with the oil, isn't it - it isn't needed dripping down the side of the bar, and and all over the place where you use the saw........:)

What I sort of wonder about, is why they made the oil tank a lot larger than needed......
