anyone heard of new technology for steel called fire and ice,i see alot of big cos(du pont)etc have had trials with good results, the ice part makes the molecules even out more.i think its going to be great for chipper blades but may take a while to be cheap enough.its designed with drill bits cutting edges in mind,i think nasa originated with the process.

I assume you mean coupling heat treatment with cryogenic treatments. Not brand new. Really does work. Is complex and must be well controlled for best results.

Basically, it controls grain growth.

Great concept, expensive in application.

im looking to get one blade done,if it doesnt break me,ill keep you posted.the guy that sharpens my blades makes mining drill bits hes pretty impressed and thinks it might be worth it.

did you ever consider getting it coated?chromium nitride is more expensive than titanium,so are carbide coatings, but you can get them done to a variety of tool steels where as gettig them treated is dependant on your steel type.this is true for my feild anyways.robert
