I noticed that Nick Web Page Describes Misc Fruitwoods sold as Firewood. I was wundering if Bradford Pear Is a decent firewood or not ? I have quiet a large pile of it And was trying to decide if i should burn it as Garbage wood or split it for firewood.

hey david,

fruitwoods tend to be lower down on the scale in terms of BTU's per cord, but their fragrance when burning makes them popular as a wood for smoking, barbecueing or open fireplaces. I call it "yuppie firewood" as they tend to be willing to pay the extra $$ for that small romantic fire, that smells good. Maybe you can work a small niche market business. There's a guy in NH who even ships boxes of "specialty" woods. I don't have any problem throwing the occasional apple or pear tree into the cordwood pile.

It burns great, we get a bunch of it too and I have no problem selling it with the other wood.

Pear is fine firewood. In my area fruitwoods sell for almost double because it is so desirable as a cooking wood.
