You really can get a lot of wood in these things, this one is seven or eight feet across by nine or ten feet high. There's a Fiskars 28in hanging on the side for reference. I made the base from one pallet right in the middle and completed the circle with stone from the property. This is made up of about 80% Shreve Oak (a live oak) 15% Coast Live Oak 5% random. It took a while to build but I think I'll get faster with each one.

That is some nice scenery.

So exactly how long did it take?

I don't think I'll ever have the patience for that.

Thanks, that's the nicest spot on our property which is why I wanted to try out a Holtz Hausen. My traditional stacks didn't look that great.

I don't know exactly because I split rounds as I stacked. If I had splits ready at the site I would guess it would have taken 3 or 4 hours. The top third where I needed a ladder were a bit tedious because I was working alone. I'll bet two guys could easily knock one of these out in a couple hours or less.

Nice, I like building them myself

Here is the one I built, also my first, about 6' across and 5 1/2' tall.

I have a ton of splits ready for stacking, so there are more to come, the wife and kids get a kick out of them

Nice, I like how you topped it off. Must be nice to have some helpers, I'm looking forward to seeing your future projects.

A measuring stick really only seems useful if you need the wood as soon as possible. I'm pretty far ahead on wood so I'll leave this out for three summers, it should be seasoned by then.

Looks like it would make a hell of a bonfire. If you decide to light her up, please post pics. Nice job !
