i've been using a 3 strand 2n1 lanyard for along time, but i find myself only using one side of it. so to reduce some bulkiness i've been thinking about buying a steelcore flipline with a line adjuster. any opinions on the diff. ones they have?(petzl, gibbs)? any info would be great!

I tried a 2in1 a little but much prefer a steel core. I was using a light 3 strand lanyard with it when I needed two. Now I just use my climbing line with a cats paw or split tail for an extra lanyard when needed.

I use the 3 in 1 wire core from Sherrill. It is ornage in color and has a tenex hip prussik.

Love mine and would never go back to using a flip line made of just rope.

I have 3 fliplines; 12 ft, 18 ft & 30 ft. All are made from 1/2 in climbing rope and use 3/8 in stable braid tress cord.

I don't like the 2n1 prussic's, because they are not as dynamic as a VT or Distal.

IMO wirecore only gives you an advantage on big trunks gaffing up, when flipping is really needed. I use mine as a secondary TIP when moving around the canopy, and will footlock it to move back up or adjust my position when hanging for a cut.

I use a 10ft wire core flipline with a gibs ascender. Just how I was trained, I guess. I do like the extra assurance when removing a tree that I cant cut thru the wire (too quickly?). I have cut my climbing line before and it happened fast... I like to throw the wire core flip line before a big cut.
I also keep a big 16 or 18 ft. flip line in the truck for those darn big evergreens they have around here. P.S. - I bolt the gibbs ascender onto my D ring with a twisted clevice... I dont quite trust all carabiners. Maybe I consider my flip line as my last line of defense?

My opinion, don't buy the 3-in-1 or 2-in-1. Buy the simple 10' with petzl microCender and twisted clevis Shrrill #27652 ~$140. As you have more money to spend, buy one more. I always carry two with me to get around limbs in the way up. I bought the 2-in-1 once and give away to my other climber for half day worth of work. It's no even close to the one mentioned above. My attachment costs maybe $30, depending on what type of tender pulley is used. For a longer one, get the best part of a retired climb line and tie a fishermans to hold the carabiner.

I have one with a gibbs ascender and is steel core. I had a 3 strand and after having the steel core I will not go back only on small light pruning jobs. Better than PB and J..almost.
