G'day everybody ATTN.GREAT PHOTOS AT END KEEP GOING

Does anyone use them? I've seen them in sherils 2003 cat about U.S$69 pair over there A.U$195 and three weeks wait here. Good coin for something i should ask about first.

Do they get in your way?
too stiff? too loose?
Can you walk on tippy toes - To the next tree?

Idea looks alright, I spend a lot of time in trees, the movings ok but waiting for a refuel can be "Hell on heels".

Thanx aussie_lopa,
Maybe its age catchin up with me... If I only spent a few hours a day in trees proberly wouldent matter much, but I have been known to enter tree at 7am (30-40 trees later) come down at 5pm (have lunch up there) Really want to know if there a gimmick or are they going to be a bit like standing on the ground. Do they bend out of shape..The guy on the phone wants to sell them to me but i dont think he's ever been higher than thongs (thats "flip flops') for thoses who dont speak aussie.. Thanx for your input..Regards Derek and remember be carefull up there.

Hi rocky (and readers)
pretty hi tec lookin boots . Maybe our equilvent to walmart (wollies) boots started the problem no support.
Have since gone to "blue steel" Jarras exelent boots but same problem with arches even with better support.

I'll tri to post pick of how much climbing is on this line people will see why we dont touch ground all day. soon.

useally no limbs for 30 m straight up and who likes polestrapping
down?? Just stay up there its so much eaiser (except on feet)

many regards Derek..

i know what your getting at derek, but its all in the boots steel inserts certainly help your arches alot.line clearing requires alot of climbing to take a few limbs off etc, thats why im a removal based climber, only have to go up once.although that said the fittest ive ever been was lineclearing lead climber, was like working on a production line.

close but no cigar!! You should get a bit of an idea however not the shot i wanted!

wouldent need them if i could allways have this to stand on!!
take care Derek

Derek, those large images got to be killing you on the upload time.  Why don't you follow up on our email exchange?  We've almost got that whole thing automated for you; just another step or two to take.

and what about FOOTPLATES? will be going back next week and would like more input.. regards Derek

Derek--I have only climbed on a set of spurs outfitted with footplates a handful of times. They were on a set of steel Klein's. I found them pretty comfortable, but as I wear a moderately heavy boot with a good insole shank, the difference was not as much as it might be. The set I used had a rubber sole glued to the bottom to give friction while walking or standing on a limb in the tree...I didn't find them particularly slippery. All in all, they worked fine, but I did not find them such an improvement that I kept using them...they do add some weight. They wouldn't fit my Bashlin's, and those are my favorites. They mounted by virtue of the plate being made in two layers and screws clamp them over the stirrup of the spur...so mounting them does not modify the spur permanently...you are not commited to useing them if you don't like 'em. Sounds kinda spendy, though, don't they?

glensI can scan now

hI burnham, and readers world wide.

Thank you very much, your the first ive encountered thats worn them. The add read "easily attaches to buckinhams" which I have, dident realise they are in to parts untill now. I just scaned the mag and will try to send it, I thought they cliped together at one end, which is why I thought they might slip around alot.

You did say things like"comfortable" 'not slippery" Hmmmm
Expencive - every thing to do with a tree is over here.. See my costs in "austria tree saddels" thread.

Dont know how to do poll/vote thang yet but i'll put you down for a yes. Keep them comming..

Regards Derek.

Derek,

I use the foot Plates and really like them. However, I do not spend alot of time in hooks. I really only use them for chunking down pieces on a stub etc.. If you tend to limb walk or other activities other than up and down a reasonably straight spar I find they stink.

Hope it helps

A friend of mine bought a pair but put them on the shelf in a short time. Since he was wrecking out whole trees he found that he couldn't use his toes to balance himself. The plates eliminate any ankle articulation. If you were doing solely spar or pole work there might be some merit. For any limb work, they aren't very useful.

I bought a pair about 12 years ago. I used them for awhile but really never liked them. They really aren't for tree work. Nothing beats a good pair of boots. Other than that you just need to get used to it. Try adjusting your gaffs differently tighter looser higher lower. When you get it right they will be more comfortable than if you had foot plates. Hang in there you'll get it.
