Has anyone ever climbed on a french prusik? This is the hitch that I have been using for years. It works great, never had any problems cinching up. I've was told once that it's not a safe hitch. In the pics I show how I set it up but you are supposed to take a few wraps and peel them down.

He's in disbelief that he brought this upon himself. lol

I gotta go feed my dog...

Later all.

I know whats going on here, thats ok I can handle it. If you dish it out you have to be able to take it. Don't joke or critizise unless you have plenty of stars and strips underneath your screen name. I thought I went through the whole groundman hazing thing years ago. It's all good, bring it!

Ok so it's just a variation of the VT. Vt and french prusik are the same thing?

Here is a pic of what I thought was a new knot. I took this pic several years ago. Don't mind the screw gate, it was just for the pic, not for climbing. Anyhow, I think this is the best knot that I have ever used for my lanyard. I don't use it for climbing much any more. I think my problem with it was that it would twist and hockel the rope.

thats a good point I do have problems sometime with the rope twisting. So the VT will eliminate rope twisting? I usually have this setup on a versatile saddle where the anchor and hitch are separated. The pics show my setup for a glide saddle. The only thing I don't like is having the anchor knot and hitch so close together. Does anyone have any suggestion on a better setup for the system?

Use an eye splice instead of your "anchor knot".

I still would like to have a little room between my anchor and my hitch so it's easy to grab my line above the hitch when ascending. The anchor side gets in the way.

I bought a Petzl Ascender and use a distel hitch for my etrier...no itch..

Yes, that eye should be better than the "anchor knot". But, are you also asking for more separation between your standing part (with the eye) and the running part (with the hitch)?

What kind of eyes do you have on that i2i?

it's a rubberband splice, came from sherrill

I recognize the climb line eye splice. I DON'T recognize the eye splice on the friction hitch.

Also, the friction hitch cord seems a little larger than I'm used to seeing.

Again, are you also asking for more separation between your standing part (with the eye) and the running part (with the hitch)?

Looks like your running that setup on a rope bridge. I think the separation your refering to has to do with the termination (eye of your climbing line) is clipped into your biner right next to your friction hitch...? I can see that being a pain in the buttocks.

Thats one of the reasons I like my old 4-Dee Buckingham Wide-Back. On the bridge I've got 2 Dees which keep the termination and the hitch pretty well seperate, eliminating that problem in all but the most precarious positions while climbing. Yeah, I know my saddle is old and uncool, but I love it.

Not having a rope bridge, and not climbing on that setup (other than using the VT) I guess I am just jacking my jaw here. I dont see how there can be any separation when your terminating your line to the same point that your hitch is attached. But, I've been wrong before!

Yes i am talking about more space between my standing and running part. The eye @ eye splice is tenex. heres a picture, little blurry sorry
