excellent point nick.

On buckingham FS there is additional material near the large ring to give more stiffness to that end so it flips up as you pull it out. this is supposed to help in retrieval w/o getting it stuck. How do you incorporate that into a homemade 16 strand FS?

Yes, the stiffness helps with retrieval, having the sling flip out of the crotch, rather then slipping over it.

I've made a couple friction savers following this design. One one of the splices (assuming 16strand line is used) Just bury a whole lot more before starting that taper. The side with the extra bury will be stiffer, but the big ring on that side.

After I started to pay closer attention to placement of my FC I stopped jamming them on retrieval. I watch how they lay in the crotch and the path my rope takes down the tree.

This isn't meant as a thread hijack :)

SRT eliminates jammed FCs. This is a small thing to factor into the whole scheme.

I'd have to look for that pic Big Jon... And I still have to pack...
Heading to the Bahamas early tomorrow for a week... My marriage could use a shot in the arm....

Bahamas? It must be nice. I was happy with just my two days of for the ISA symposium in Lancaster PA. Back to the topic, like Tom said its a good idea to select your crotches wisely. I always like to lay my FS in the crotch and do a dry run on the retrieval to make sure the ring passes through the crotch easily. They do get quite small at 90 ft up.

John, you should's when down and run a stumper for Murph. then you could afford to take off for a while too.

Joey and I were talking the other day, whining that we left.

I can't really be leaving the state here. I have to stay here and take care of my horses. I am looking forward to hitting the tree work hard for Dan this spring and summer. I do need to put my skills to work for me. I live near alot of non believers. This is a a whole other topic but I can't get a job in my town. Most companies here the owner is the top climber and in his mind probably the best ever. I guess its some sort of intimidation. Does this sound strange?

I guess I will be seeing you in Pittsburgh this summer?
