I thought I might put a plug in for my Alumni Conference which is in January, here in the Niagara Region.

It's open to non-Alumni, and while it's a Hort based program... as I am the Chair this year, it's a 'Tree Conference' (he he)

I guess I just checking to see that advertising for an educational conference on the board is not out of line?

Thanks

I I think it is perfectly accseptabel.

Anyone else?

I can't believe i'm going to say this...I agree with Brian.

Post it, even bump it up to the top once or twice a day, just don't do the sticky. If it's of interest to people here, it'll float on it's own merit, if not, it'll sink off into the archives.

My thought is that the stickies are there for the lurkers and the people who come by every few weeks, nit just for the regulars.

Thoug i do agree that they can sit there too long, espcialy if I leave town for a while.

Actually , that horrid old "why I'm charging ten dollars" thread proves Brian's point. It was self-sticking because people wanted to add to it. The stickies don't annoy me greatly but I do view them as rather useless. I see John's point about someone wandering through will be more likely to notice them but I suspect that : A. The one wandering through is extremely unlikely to attend the function in any case and B. Almost every group/club I've ever encountered seems to get caught up in molly coddling those who don't contribute much. Heaven forbid that we don't fulfill every possible felt need for some do-nothing. My personal observation has been that such efforts are a complete waste of time and resources. I suspect that this is where Brian is coming from. I know that John just wants to give a casual visitor the opportunity to gain more knowledge. It might even happen. I would only request that you please don't burden us with a whole wad of stickies at the same time. As Brian said-they aren't relevant to most of those who really utilize and contribute to the site.

O why not give them a week stickied, you can still find the tress cord thread, which sounds like something you tie a ponytail with.

What is the issue with just passing by the Stickies? It doesn't cost anything to ignore them. The more notice that people have for education the better off the profession will be. Who can measure what percentage of the users gain value from any particular thread?

I would give programs all the space they need at the top of the page. My Glidepoint takes me past the ones I don't care to read. Besides, I check in by using the "New Messages" and only see Stickies once.

Mid-am trade show was in Chicago today and the next few days, it was ok. Con-ex is the 27th at Wisconsin sate fair grounds, the WAA winter seminar is Feb 2-4 in Green Bay, and those just in my area in the next couple weeks.

If we all chip in, I bet we could fill two or three pages of stickys for just the next month or so!

where do you guys find all that info and stuff for the tree seminars and things like that?

The trade magazines if your not a memeber of the orginization.

WDNR and WAA send out registration forms for all thier seminars a few months prior.

ISA and TCI are sorta get togethers for some of us. we get to see each other once or twice a year.

Now, since we all have different interests, we let each ohter know when something interesting is happening.

So, when is the Logging Congress this year?:D

Do what ya do with stickies, just don't forget to remove 'em

I think they hate it just because it is envy of moderator capabilities.

I have always been thumbs up for what you do, I think you don't snip enough.

Doesn't cost to ignore right???????
