I have a problem with fuel line fit.

The hole in the tank is about 1/4 inch ID. The fittings on the carb and the filter are 1/4 OD (PLUS THE BUMP). If the fuel line will go thru the hole in the tank , then it will not fit around the fittings. If I get a line that will go around the fittings, it will not go through the hole in the tank.

I am about 30 minutes from reaming the hole in the tank (metal), so If you can help me, hurry.

I have:

1. The tiny fuel line that will not fit anything.
2. 3/16id 5/16od that won't go thru the hole and will barely go over the fittings. Maybe if I melt it.
3. 1/4 id that will go over the fittings well, but will not even begin to go thru the hole in the tank.

It looks like they originally had 1/4 OD line and streached it ALOT!!!!!!!!! (nearly twice its original size)

thanks

Add fuel filter

Sorry. Also. The new fuel filter that I bought is the correct size in all dimensions, however, It will allow air/fuel to pass both directions.

The original fuel filter seems to only allow air/fuel to pass 1 direction (the correct way of course). Does this matter?

I ran into the same problem last week on a Poulan Wood Shark that needed new lines, now I don't know if anyone else has done this or not.... I could'nt get the line through the hole in the tank so I got a piece of fuel line that was about 6 inches too long, heated it up with my lighter and streched a small portion of it which made it smaller in diameter as it streched out. I held it for a minute until it cooled off, then clipped it in half at the narrowest point which left me with a pointed end on the line which was easy to fish through the hole. I then reached inside the tank with needle nosed pliers and pulled it through the hole, pulling out enough to trim off the streched portion of the hose. I then attached the filter and pulled it back into the tank from the other end, trimmed it to length and hooked it to the carb, it worked perfectly. This may not be the "proper" way to do this but it worked for me, quick & easy. Matt in KY
