fuel/oil caps

My favorite filler caps are on the little 26cc Echo chainsaw I got from Australia. The tanks have threads sticking up, like on a pancake syrup bottle, and the cap fits over the threads. It works because there is never a screw-in plug to squeeze out a bit of oil or fuel from a full tank to run down the chainsaw case. For some reason, the caps are easy to screw off and don't leak when they are on.
 
Ya know, if ya just place the cap in position and it twist it counterclockwise till it settles in the thread, ya won't cross thread the cap. And you can do it without looking at what you're doing. Try that with the new caps.

I did all that and didn't overfill, and payed attention etc., etc.
then one day...gloooppp, and the cap is in two pieces!

Sooner or later it will happen to you too!!!
 
Is that why the Dolmar dealers don't stock them? ;)

This is true. I've sold and serviced Dolmar for a few years now (14) and I can just about count the times I've sold Dolmar parts other than chain, sprockets, bars, air / fuel filters and spark plugs. Had to replace a few covers on a saw that fell out of a tree once. Had an ignition coil that failed on initial start up a few years back. I've never sold a fuel or oil cap. Then again, we don't have a lot of loggers here in Northern, IL. And we don't use chainsaws to harvest Corn or Soybeans. Maybe I should use a harvester bar and chain for that?
 
Thanks for the clarification.

The only problems I have had with the old style caps are:

Hole poked in the cap with a scrench.

Gasket mashed by overtightening with a scrench.


You can buy 'em the books and send 'em to school...
