Any other Stihl dealer.... You also need a new top AV spring, then then there is the extended side cover... Expensive way to upgrade a new saw.

I was at a dealer the other day, that had an MS440 with the full wrap, the big dawgs, the roller chain catcher, the whole "R" package. The Stihl MSRP tag was the same one as on the standard issue saw at another dealer. I was SO tempted. I mean, if I'm going to spend MSRP on a saw, I'm certainly going to get the "R" version. However, I had already bought my 044. Still though, it makes me wonder how much I could get for the 044, and then how different the MS440 would actually be from my '98 044. They're probably both equally EPA'd out, so the 044 is probably more desireable because it has less stuff to break, like the compression release. I'm probably wrong though.

If you are regularly measuring your compresson, I'd keep it - you aren't cutting enough wood to justify a new saw:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

what are the part numbers for the

extended side cover
the big dual dogs
the big chain catcher
the wrap handle
and the top AV spring

basically, that's the whole "R" package, right?

i hate going to my dealer in town... they either look up the part no.'s
in a book or they go over to a VERY old computer and slide in a thin sheet
of plastic and ask me to point out what it is i am talking about... :dizzy:

very frustrating

and it's alot easier to walk in there with the part numbers on a piece of paper
and say, "i need all that by wednesday"

:givebeer:

wrap handle -1138 790 3600 - $96.75
elbow - 1138 791 5500 - $12.00
big cover, chain catcher, and spikes - 1138 640 1700 - $80.45
Inner dog to match - 1122 664 0506 - $13.30

There is also another part number - 1138 790 3603 - $157.80. This MIGHT be a complete kit of side cover and handle but I can't tell from the system.

There's also a few screws you'll need.

It's unclear if you need the AV spring or not.

I'd sell the saw and buy a real wrap model.

i'd love to
and then i'd just go with the 660 wrap model

but most of the dealers here in north texas don't seem to have
the wrap model set up

and i hardly ever see a wrap model of any big saw on the racks/shelves

more than likely, the reply i'll get is this: "i don't have it in stock
but i can order it for ya"

I can't order wrap handle units for all intents and purposes. My distributor doesn't stock them at all and I have to call and have them special order it from Germany for the 441/460/660 etc.
