Fun at work... got to cut a bunch this week with our big 240v chop saw. It's loud, dangerous, slings gritty muck-water, and cuts cookies out of 6" asphalt density cores like crazy. Actually cutting cookies is what we use it for... the roadway folks bore a 6" core of freshly rolled pavement out of the road and we often have to cut some off to remove the specific layer (usually the top, or the top + the one underneath it) we're testing.
Fun chasing down two bolts & nuts to finish off a modded 029 muffler. I called the local shop and the nice lady said "The Computer is showing two bolts on hand, but no nuts..." (Roughly translated as: "Cross your fingers, Buddy!") So I bail out of work a little early and blaze a trail thataway. I detoured to the local hardware and grabbed three stainless M5 nuts and also three stainless acorn nuts, just to CYA.
Get to the saw shop and they were pretty busy (everyone is either buying new junk or wanting old junk fixed on a sunny Friday evening @ quitting time) I fell in with an older guy getting sold a little MS 170. This was really good (bad) as it allowed me a couple moments to ogle & fondle. Sure enough, I got caught molesting a 441/20" and the owner got me in his sights. "That's a Big Saw there, son." I did my best to sound like a kid caught peering at the Playboys behind the drugstore counter "Uh, em Yes Sir, yes it is!" I asked him if they had a MS192 rear-handle and by gawd they DID! I spent a good bit of time ogling and fondling. What's worse, is I kinda like it! Dagnabbit.
Anyhow, I queued up at the parts counter and presented my list. (They love me for having part #s & descriptions listed) By some odd alignment of stars & moon they actually had those two bolts I needed!!! I also ordered up a few limiter caps, a removal tool, a TS400 screen/clip for my upcoming 361 muff-mod, and a decal for the 371. YabbaDabbaDo & out the door we go... grinnin like a possum.
Get home and toss the muffler on the 029. Those gleamy little acorn nuts on the ends of the bolts are Blingin!!! Gas her up, full choke, and it pops on the third pull. Set to 'run' and one more lights it off. I'm not a good judge, but this thing got LOUD!!! My ears have been hammered on this week by that chopsaw, but this little pig Oinks now, baby! I could only give it a couple tickles since I haven't turned the juice up yet. (waiting on that limiter tool/caps) Oh My, how the neighbors are gonna love me long time.
:greenchainsaw:
After that brief assault on (what's left of) my hearing, I browsed my invoice... Hmmm, they didn't charge me for those two bolts. Being of a mostly honest nature, I gave them a call to let them know I shorted them & I'd settle up when the other junk comes in. (Ulterior Motive: Maybe they remember and I get a little better swing on that little 192 when that day comes.)
I can't wait to get those bits & pieces so I can open up the 361 can a'la Lakeside 53. (Thanks for the great writeup & pics Andy!)
and hoping everyone's Friday went just as decent!
