A few months ago someone had placed a post wanting to know where they could get gas cans without the safety pour. I didn't have a clue what they were talking about until I went down to the hurricane and some people down their had them. We don't have requirements for safety pours here. I guess what I am trying to say is if you are looking for a non-safety gas can you can get them anywhere here in Iowa. If you can't figure out where give me a call and I can have them shipped to you.

where were you a week ago? i heard there was some in texas so i drove there from new york and stocked up. actually i found them in new jersey, they must have different dot laws than new york. thanks for the offer to ship.....that was mighty nice of you.

I didn't know either, .... It basically is a spring loaded cap that requires you to push in on the spout which catches the edge of the container/saw which then allows the fuel to flow.

That spring-loaded part is supposed to prevent spills because when you release it, it shuts off the gas flow. I don't seem to be able to use it without using both hands - one to pour and the other to hold the spring open. I did manage to disable another (in the way) bit of a cap/piece.

We use these gas cans. Duo for fuel and oil. Only on the fuel i use the filler. I have no problems to use it. Only when you put the can in sun, pressure may cause a spil so just before getting it upside down release pressure. That filler holds up 2-3 years or so and the can i use is almost 5 years. works great on the stihl saws, brushcuttersand a bit harder on the hedgeclippers and blowers.

Thank you for the pics. I thought you were talking about the no-spill spouts, like the one from Bailey's. That one is spring-loaded but doesn't require you to depress it by virtue of the tank rim pressing on the spout. Instead, there is a thumb-press pointing the opposite direction of the spout. Press it, fuel flows. Release it, fuel stops. Really quite nice.

My wife got me modle 50810 at Sears. No vent to leak and the cap is easy to use, though not secure. I like the ridged spout too.

I've been thingking about posting this since she got it.

I like mixing in a big can and filling saws from a small one.

Oh beautiful Cali and all her EPA wisdom has done away with the free flowing gas cans and dolmars of the seventies and replaced them with multi patented Funky spouts. In the USFS It was all about the sig. I don't think they're practical unless you're carrying your living room in a backpack for 21 days straight.

DOT Approved?

how about anybody having trouble with the DOT and their gas cans? I just got told today that I can't use plastic gas cans and carry them in a commercial vehicle. Now that's a pain.

Keep your toolbox doors closed :) out of sight out of mind

Today I was putting gas in my plastic gas can and the same DOT inspector we've been getting harassed by stops and hrasses me about the gas cans. All us treeworkers in my area have been under fire hard lately from the DOT.

Found out in a course here last week that the industrial regs here(health and safety act) specify no gas cans without the spring loaded spout and a spark arrestor. No plastic. We don't even own one that's legal, and we're municipal government!!

I like the spring loaded fuel caps, not just because i find them very practical but from a health and safety point of view there good. If you get one of the Husqvarna cans it has a list of EN numbers it applys too, i think theres one NATO one as well.

I've never had a problem with doing the fueling with a husky can, the only downside of them is if you fill them up to the full 5 litres they leak a little bit. STIHL spring loaded oil spouts annoy me since i managed to break on on its second use-it got stuck in the oil tank. Pulling it out broke it.
