I have been working on some older Homelite saws I acquired. Super EZ and Super 2 are running XL 123 is work in progress. I have Stihls, 200T, MS362, MS460, Husqvarna 272 3ea. I have been running 50/1 Stihl synthetic in those saws. Was wondering if I change my mix to 40/1 Stihl synthetic would it be OK in all these saws including the older Homelites?

Should be fine just be sure to retune the mixture as a higher concentration oil mix takes away from the amounts of pure fuel per unit of mix….essentially slightly leaning out the saw if not retuned a bit richer.

Mix ratio only depends on the quality of the oil. A modern fully synthetic oil works fine with 50:1, more oil just means more carbon buildup.

Thanks for all the good advise guys.-
I worked at a homelite dealership in the 70s and collect old homelites there is a reason those saws are still around after 50-60 yrs and that has to do with 16:1 and 32:1 mixtures. new syn oils are better but I would not exceed 32:1 even with the new oils-richer mixture produces more power and those old style bearings need the extra lubrication. diaphrams and seals also stay more plyable. newer saws with the 50:1 don't last because they want you to buy a new saw more often so they stay in business. just adjust your saw to the mixture your running.---homelite hansen
