Ok...I'm close to doin it for the first time.

1. Two 18 inch oak logs...one 4 foot, the other 5 foot long
2. Granberg MK III 24" csm
3. Dolmar 7900 24 inch bar

I have planned, strategized, planned, theorized, and planned some more. Let's just say I have no idea what I'm doing or what I can expect! Hey...it's my first time! I can't wait. Honestly I'm waiting for March to come when I take my truck out of moth-balls. This will free up some space in my barn to lay the cut boards.

I have no immediate use for the boards I will be cutting. Do you have any advice on how thick to mill them? What would be a good thickness that would appeal to potential buyers...be the most desireable to the most people? I have access to a planer. What say you? Any other advice? I know, I know...end sealer...Thanks in advance for your comments. Consider me a rehabilitated firewooder.

Most people I know are wanting 8x8 beams. But you said that your logs are only 5 foot in lenght....

Building of desks or cabinets would be 4/4 rough, then the end-user can plane to dimension.

Fun fun fun!!!!!!!
