Awe, Hell Tom; Just trying to distract ya, from seeing it was me disagreeing again, though only margin-ally.

Just pointing out that that was why we were taking such an exam-i-nation of the topic anyway (i think), to minimize force. The distance from the anchor to marl is a part of this whole picture for fine tuning. But, i feel write in the same area of work as marl is another component who's scrutiny yields far more results to this end. Something that i really concentrate on, and seems to elude others i see.
 
Ok, I think I see it. the log is falling the same distance no mater where the marl is tied.

So I see an added (albe it small) advantage in tying closer to the bowline in that you have more rope to absorbe the force.
