That man doesn't know Christ and is a user, that's why he can't keep a good crew. Glad to hear your father is doing better.

Never sacrifice yourself needlessly on the altar of some one elses convenience. "No" can be the most liberating word.

You've put in your time as a follower, Beasty, time to lead. Time to start your own business. "Despise not the day of small beginnings." Sounds like you have put in more than enough time to get your ISA certs.

I think the last thing he should do is start a business! He know's this market, (so-cal), and I doubt he want's to compete with residential hack's.
This economy only make's it worse.
HO's don't care much about spending money on tree work in 2012.
However, HOA's, Golf course's, commercial, etc,, the tree's are a liability.
To do these job's, you need credential's.
It is a hard living in So Cal as a mom and pop.
If I was Wade, (Beast), I would apply at all the top company's here in so-cal. I could name a few.
Jeff ,,Friday!!!!!!!! :msp_biggrin:

Before the economy went down the drain I had it made. I was a cocky S.O.B. I made more money then I knew what to do with, I was in demand and was wanted by a lot of Company's here local and all over the state.
Lot's have changed in the last 5 years. Some of those company's that wanted me so bad aren't even in business any more, others are barley holding on. The quaility of work has suffered, the pay scale has suffered, and the quaility of workers has suffered.
People won't pay for good work and there are a ton of company's bidding the work that is out there. It's getting a little better slowly, but its hard to have confidence in this economy.
Early on I checked with WCA, and Asplundh Tree. I talk to a recruiter from Davy's. I was shocked at what they pay their foremens. Not in a good way.
I am going out of town in a few days, when I get back, I'm going to take the ISA test.( I almost aced most of it last time)and go job hunting. Jeff I'll be in contact. Also a friend of mine is a muckady muck for Arbor works, I want a good job more then I need one if that makes any since. I like to work. I think I'd be an asset for any big company's working around here(like Upland)my finger is on the pulse of that area. The day of small family owned buisnesses has waned around here.

Try being in Construction. I'm not saying that Beast should quit working for another company TODAY and expect to be rolling in it, but that he should start laying the foundation for the type of company that he wants to work for. A famous author once said "If you're dying to read the book that hasn't yet been written, then write it!"

If you can manage the customers, with the right balance of service and standards, and stomach the paperwork, there is NOTHING more liberating than being your own boss. Just never forget where you came from.
