I need to buy another saw for use up in the tree.Whta do y'all think I should get?A husky, stihl, maybe echo?I got a 335xp now but need a little bigger.I did use a 371xp but Ken still has it doing his magic:D I need something in between them.

So what size are you looking for? You have your trim saw so I assume you want something a tad bigger for 12"-20" wood. I like my Stihl 026 but since you are obviously a Husky fan you might want to look at the 346XP or possibly the 357XP. Or you could get Dan or Dennis to build you a 346XP and have the power of a 357 in a smaller package.

I do like huskies and also like like stihls.I guess something between 40cc -60cc is what I would like.I thought about both of the 346xp and the 357xp.I just need some good imput on my choses. What is the going prices on these also?

Can't tell you prices on the Huskies but the 026 should be just under $400.
I'd think 50cc-60cc would be a good size. Not enough difference between the climbing saw and a 40cc rear handled saw to justify the purchase. I'd shoot for something with an 18" or possibly 20" bar. Depending on the trees you remove you will rarely need anything larger aloft. I have an 18" on my 026 and it would pull a 20" easily with some massaging by Dan or Dennis.

I think a 357 or a 2159 would fit rite in perfectly.
But by no means rule out a PP346xp light weight with the power close to a stock 357/2159

woodsjunkie,I hadn't even thought about the Jonsered 2159.There is a guy down the road who sells them I'll also check with him. Thanks:)

Tree Monkey,

You say the 280 is a good saw. Have you worked the sh"t out of one? If you have about how many hours have you put on it ? I ran a 270 last fall but only for a very short time and could make no judgement other than it had low vibration. At that time no 280's were available. I checked on the 280 a couple months back and they still were not in. From what Stihl Tech has posted earlier the 280 did not seem to be constructed to pro standards. Since you sated it was a good saw I assume you have put a great deal of hours on one and can comment about it's quality.

Clif,

I have run lots of Stihls over the years, but now like Huskys a bit better.

I have two 346XPs, a fab little saw, even stock, and to me anyhow, much better than the 026. But mine was modified by Dennis of this group (the other is brand new, unused) and runs a good 50% over stock hp! It is a demon, and nice and light. If you're back east, look up dozer dan on site here. He mods them and I think sells them too. Or Dennis, who is in BC. His work is awesome.

I'd like a 357 too, but with the hot 346 and two modded 372's I'm set. Oh and the Greffardized 3120......

:blob2:

Roger, where you been? It used to be fun when you were around.
When are we going to race our 3120's? When are you going to race your 346 against John's soon-to-be-carbon-dunnulated 346?
Hahaha. What are you doing in July? Hahaha.

Well I looked at some saws today(357xp,260,270,280,2149 and 2159).I like the 357xp and I can get it for $519 w/18" bar.The 2159 I can get for $475 w/18" Total bar.I wanted to look at a 346xp but they didn't have one instock. What do y'all thionk of these prices.Good or Bad:confused:

rbtree, hopefully by next week I to will have a modded 371xp KD style:D

Cliff,

I don't know how you feel about buying a saw off the internet but I found where you can get a 357XP w/18" for $480.00..And a 346XP w/18" for $342.00..Just some food for thought, not trying too start the online vs dealer stuff again. If your interested I'll post a link.
