I reload as well
Depends on the ammunition your using ballistics vary , I reload so my ballistics are consistent . As for recoil 30.06 has very little same with the .308 , but then I played hockey all my life so , some people are a little more sensitive . I have fired the .378 Magnum and it has some push back however with the muzzle break not overly harsh , However the down range performance is impressive for a 30 caliber ! :blob2:
I reload as well. The BC for most 375 caliber bullets is terrible. So longe ra ge they are not great at.
A 30-06 in a mountain rifle as is a 308. Both the 6.5 creedmoor and 7mm-08 will best 308 ballistics with less recoil.

The 30-.378 has the strongest ballistics of all the magnum middle weight calibers capable of exceeding 2600 fps with 250 gr. @ 400 yrs . It takes extended practice and proper trigger pull rates to achieve consistent accuracy with big bore calibers . I have fired a few rounds of the Rigby 416 & Weatherby 460 both with flash suppressor & muzzle brakes and recoil is mind bending . Anyhow I think we regress Mr Walker . I believe the jest of this thread was Husky vs Stihl. . PM me should you wish to continue the dialogue....Cheers !

A 300 RUM will throw a 245 Berger faster and has a vastly higher BC. Plus you dont have to deal with ****** belted cases and ****** Weatherby freebie. Not a fan of Weatherby anything save the 6.5 RPM.

All very valid points on 270 30-06 308.I favor 06 due to large selections of bullet weights they are all great calibers but the >270 is marginal for moose.I think the >308s rise in popularity was because it works better in semi autos and the .308 was familiar to a lot of US soldiers.I hunted state side in northern Wis Mich and around International falls Min I used a .243 as it was a lot lighter to carry and was ample power for white tails.
Okay I promise no more gun chat I will I will stick to Husky vs Stihl
Kash

I have killed two moose with two 140gr bullets from a 280.
When I lived a few hours north of International falls the best moose hunter I knew used a 7mm-08 and a 300 savage before that.
Moose are pretty easy to kill.

I got a bull moose with a .243 years ago.

Your absolutely correct , many of the short mags also were due to semi auto action rifles !

Well since this thread has turned into the Big Game Forum , fyi have shot 50 moose , 70 deer , 20 Elk. , 12 Caribou , 6 Black bear & 4 Brown bear and too many wolf's , coyote & ground hogs to remember . Have used .22 hornet , .222 Remington , 22-250 Remington , .243 Winchester , .303 Springfield , .300 Savage , .444 Winchester , 30.06 Springfield & all have produced meat for the freezer . I learned as a teenager hand loading your own ammunition and hours of practice on the range with a properly adjusted light but crisp trigger action can produce tack busting performance . At 67 yrs young my running through the swamps , ridges and valleys of the North may soon be over . I have for yrs longed for a Weatherby stainless Mark V 30-378 Magnum loaded with 220 gr. boatails and some long range 400+yd challenging Moose kills that numerous clear cut areas now provide . So in summary shoot what you brought to the dance , but do it ethically & with confidence of your abilities ! ;)

Actually , last I looked the 30-.378 was 150 fps faster via 8-10 more grains of powder . It was rated fastest 30 cal. rifle in the world 2018 , may have changed to #2 lol . P.S. I load only fully belted Barnes & Hornaday. :givebeer:

Still stuck with antiquated belted cases and freebore chambers.

But moving on..
Yes , however the 30.06 is a antiquated caliber and my freezers full , actually the 30-.378 was introduced in 1996 220 gr. Hornaday boatails is what I intend to utilize until my new dies & casings arrive . However I checked and your wrong on the 300 Remington Ultra-Mag there is no Berger 245 gr only 210 available and the Weatherby exceeds it both in fps & BC in any projectile profile . Anyhow I know what. I like , for Moose and Elk up North I'll go with the Weatherby , still have the Remington 700 BDL for back up & the old .444 Marlin for my swamp bucks , I think my success rate speaks volumes of what works up North , out West may be different ! :givebeer:

There is indeed a 245gr Berger...

Talking about high jacking a thread
Yep , that Michigander Lionsfan baited me lol. Actually Mr Walker & I have a penchant for hijacking threads...my apologies to MaddBomber for running away with his thread , fun discussion though , may have to further investigate the merits of the 300 Rum.... lol ....over n out ! ;)

As a trapper a guide and a person born and raised in a remote water acsses only home I will refrain from listing my life time hunting totals as it could possibly incriminate me and I do not have my lawyer present.Suffice it to say it was enough to satisfy any man.I am in Canada but I will still plead the fifth.Have a great evening it was a fun thread and sorry to the op for straying from chain saws.
Kash

I just like saws; for now im using a t540 xp2, and the 550xp2. so right now im giving them a shot, gambling on the husky brand, and so far loving them. I am pretty much a one man band doing a handful of jobs a month. so i can take care of my equipment and know exactly what its been through. Im hoping to be part of the statistic 5 years from now being able to show that husqvarna developed some keepers with the mark 2s.
