Moderate weather, at 29-30*.
But it has been below freezing for awhile, and ice is beginning to form on small ponds.
Which means I can no longer brush dirt off logs when need be. More sharpening than usual, but no complaints, yet. Also, I need to be more diligent on cleaning the machine at the end of the day. With cutting benches on both sides of the splitter, the splitter gets sprayed with saw chips, which build up everywhere, including the beam and even inside the rack housing. Then the moist chips freeze.
49* and partial sun predicted for tomorrow, then rain following.
Pulled the engine on the SuperSplit, changed oil, checked/lubed push plate bearings. Greased zerks, etc.
I pulled the engagement pivot rod to check/lube the engagement bearings. There are also needle bearings for this horizontal rod in the frame. A better approach would be to disconnect the lower portion of the vertical rod from the handle to the engagement cam, to allow the cam to be inverted, making the large bearings accessible, without removing the pivot rod. I had trouble with reassembly. I ordered new engagement bearings to put on the shelve to swap out next time.
It's up and running. Enjoyed doing a little over half a cord today. A good day for cutting and splitting indeed.
Burning some Beach tonight. I think it's almost my favorite... right behind apple pie.
