Had to take down a 28" elm from my folks back yard yesterday. The elm was a victim of D. Elm and was afraid that one of our Kansas wind storms might put on top of their house.

Dropped it with my MS260, but because of its size I got out my old C5 Homey to block it up small enough to haul off to burn pile with the Kubota.

Sure brought back lots of memories. Like to hear the loud deep roar of the old saws. Like the torque they had, but not the vibration. Have 404 chain on it and it sure does the job.

Hope to get time to get into a XP1020Auto that I got last week. Not to hopeful for that saw though as it may end up as a parts saw. Sure would like to get it going, as I bet it would sound great and pull good.

Well enough memories for now. Sure do like to hear the old larger displacement saws do their thing. Just wondered if other guys feel the same?

Nothing like the rumble of a old saw! But now that I am getting older and wussier I would'nt want to cut too often. I think I am turning into a sissy boy:chainsawguy:

Ya gotta love those big old engines for sound, torque, and durability. There are huge piles of expensive trashed saws that don't show near the quality of construction of those old Homeys and Macs. If it weren't for the parts issues I'd choose them for milling every time.

Yea they're certainly fun, i generally take the husky 350 and the 090 out cutting and anything over about 15" gets the 090 (25" bar, keep the 42" for backup) once you've used the big saws a little bit they really aren't that taxing - probably for me the hardest bit would be carrying the saw a long way, not bucking with it.
Recently picked up a mac 740 (free) with new 18" hardtop bar, spent 3 hours cleaning crud out of it and remember thinking that it was going to be hard to start, fired right up on the second pull and has been first pull ever since (probably appreciated the love i showed it), i'll take it as well next time!
