I just came back from my dealer from a maintenance and he was noticing I had greenteeth on the wheel. One of the workers said that greenteeth may crack the boom over time and then he went around the back and showed me a machine with cracks and thinks it is because of these teeth. However, the person who sold me the machine was there and he said he's not sure it was the teeth that cause cracks, but did in fact say he talked to a greenteeth representative and he said greenteeth cause 1/2 the wear (the life) of belts and other things in the machine due to extra vibration. Do you guys know if there is truth to this? I love greenteeth. Thanks,

Daniel

I thought it was funny, back when I had my Rayco 1625, I was going to put Greenteeth on it. Everyone said, "oh, it will cause early bearing failure." Now that Vermeer has their own copy of the greenteeth the yellow jackets, I haven't heard anyone say anything about greenteeth wearing something out faster than normal until you just posted.

I've heard of shorter bearing life on smaller machines that run 1100 series greenteeth but not larger ones. Blaming the cracks on them seems like a stretch. Stump grinders vibrate and take a lot of abuse. I run 1100 series in rocky ground and am impressed by how tough they are. That said, I may make the switch to sandvik when I run out of my stock pile of used greenteeth.

Scott, my 8018 is now wireless!

Big improvement huh?
I just put it in today and ran it through the motions in the shop. I've got a couple of big maples thursday. I can tell already, that it's way nicer than the cord. I picked up a 6X12 tandem to haul it on. I'll get some pics up soon.

8018 with sandvik wheel

Put the new revolution wheel on the 8018 this week. unbelievable how the chip throw compared to the green teeth decreased. unbelievable how smooth it ground. Will keep updates as i get more hours on it.

I ran the 1100s for a while. I do believe they are harder on the machine - especially when they get a little dull.

You need to be careful of the motivation of the dealers and the factories -the are all trying to sell their own systems.

I like the Sandvik - but I think the key is keeping whatever you run sharp.

It is funny how outspoken my Vermeer dealer was against Green Teeth - and now the Yellow Jacket is the greatest thing ever
