Picked up the Rayco 1625A super junior yesterday and ground my first stump! A 38 inch maple. Took a couple hours as I was a bit tentative. I did manage to hit a couple rocks too. Machine is great. Looking forward to going out again today. Seems everyone I know has one I can "practice on." Please....

That is a pretty big stump to do with the 1625. Two hours seems about right for it on a big stump like that, with no prior experience. Once word gets around, you will have plenty of business for your machine.
I started out like you, no experience at all. Now, I have more work than I can handle most of the time. Good luck with your business.

Here's one I did Monday with my 1625 (1627 now)

about a 30" dbh SOLID oak!

Took me 3.5 hours. I brought my chainsaw to cut it down but at about half way through I must have found a nail cause that chain is now toast so I ended up grinding the whole thing plus because it was a blow-over, I had to grind about a 15' diameter circle around the stump to get rid of the raised area. Man, I got to get a bigger grinder.

3.5 hours. I know I need a bigger one. I'm working on that right now but right this minute, I only do this part time but am wanting to jump in full time IF I get a bigger grinder.

Just remember bid like you are or close to it when you do! Many get
large equipment to bid lower and find the costs of running large equipment
higher not to mention buying price! That said I can compete now on big
jobs say 200 stumps 15.00 per stump. I am still high when I get one or two!
I guy called yesterday 30" stump told him 150.00 and he got to saying
for one stump: I said have you seen the fuel prices on diesel lately?
I did not get the job but wtf I would have been wearing my machine
for nothing for less. They see fifteen minutes at 150.00 I see thirty
in fuel 300.00 per set teeth insurance etc. It is almost always the
rich guys that jew and it ticks ya off, they got it made and don't want
to pay fair for excellent service.

Some of that was jacking with the chainsaw until I figured out the chain was dead. I had just sharpened it the night before. And somehow I doubt you can do that stump and the 15' diameter root ball down as deep as I did in 1 hour with your dosko.

Wish you were closer - I'd just subcontract everything to you!!!! That is a big stump with a larger root area.

I've been called in to regrind many a stump people did quickly with a handlebar!

Not even an hour with the RG90 I've been renting... wiped out a 4' diameter sugar maple a few weeks ago in about an hour with that sucker. Just an AMAZING machine. Sadly I won't have to rent it again for probably another month. Looked at 1 job the other day, 2 stumps... 1 spruce about 10" diameter in the middle of a lawn. Then 1 sugar maple stump in a big pacysandra bed, sloping downhill towards the stump... stump was about 22" diameter and a bit on the high side... lady was worried about her pacysandra... told her $250 for the both of them WITH clean-up and she complained... I felt that was a good price... no soil mind you, but still moving the debris into the woods takes away from my time grinding at other places.

I used to work for Rayco and built all the tow behind units and the RG 50. The first time I cut with the 120 DXH was absolutely amazing.

The 1625 is a good unit for small stuff and 36" gates, but the 50, 55 and 66 are much better and faster units all the way around

Well you might. I raced one of the guys that works for us with one of our 630B grinders today at a golf course stump job and beat the heck out of him with a Dosko. I ground $875.00 worth of stumps in less than two hours.

No Blisters!!!

Just curious, How many blisters did you get from horseing around the dosko for 2 hours? If i had to use one of those i would get another job. I have a 60hp. carlton 7015 all hydraulic with remote and NO CALLOUSES!
Just having fun, nothing personal.

I agree with rope n saddle,15 minutes with a tow behind..But starting out your time doesnt matter as much,i used a 1620 super junior for many years and still have it..

It made my hands and shoulders sore but not really blisters. I have two 630B Vermeers and a 1625 besides the three Dosko walk behinds. I don't "have" to do anything since I am the boss but I still like to show the guys that work for me that I can still outwork them if I want to. And I still climb from time to time.
