Know i wasn't cussing; till i was driving home!

Actually i stated how we were leaving and why; had to say it 2x like noone heard me! i was straining not to go off like a handgrenade in a hallway! Was about speachless to customer, had to call later and explain!

i read a while back how as materials of nylon /polyester weren't supposed to be affected by gas/oil. Then when the conversation turned to ropes all of the sudden it does?? Anyway, i did what i have preached and read, destroyed the gear, so their would be no mistakes, even if someone were digging it out of the trash!

We've had small gas spills before on s-crap lines (10-20' utility sections we keep for making sure good stuff doesn't get tore up dragging etc.). That is why, we don't fill the can, we put it where it won't tip, we put the gear in the basket off bed (actually cradle of stump cart i had made), there are even small feet on gear bag (that might have helped, if placed on feet while closed). i make that as at least 3 things that had to be screwed up to allow this; that is enough 'double check' for most situations! Had to explain to'em that i rig stuff all day and must check and recheck for posititve control, allowing that much to sneak by me; isn't allowed in my day to day werk in strenuous circumstances. So explaining this to me how they allowed all this to sneak by their control under relaxed circumstances was pretty hard, by the scale i must live by! I even told them how we were going farther than usual and to make sure everything was secured!!!! Oh, but we had 'our' cigs, and they were dry..........

No line was douched with the stuff, i broke out my last 6 loop runners, made new lanyards and tails (3strand); broke out olde belt that i let some guys use from time to time. So not $500 loss, guess on that scale i feel lucky already!

i used to carry all the saws and climbing gear in the back of a pick up. i picked up a big plastic tote with a hinge lid on it at home depot. all the ropes and climbing gear went in the tote so they did not come in contact with gas or oil. it even helped if you got caught in the rain. for the 50.00 it was a good investment.

also, i used to carry 2 (2 1/2 gallon gas cans. they fit perfect in a milk crate. the milk crate gave them stability and protected them from coming in contact with the chains on the saws.
