Recently I had a yellow pine come down (in a hurry) and pinch my bar, so now the chain won't fit into the pinch area. Does anyone know how to spread the guides back apart, or should I just ditch the bar. I have already bought a new one and was gonna try and save this one. Oh ya- 25" bar/ .50 guide/ goes with my 044...Thanks!

I have ground a piece of hard steel something like a screwdriver, but a bit wider and shallower taper, and driven it into the tight spot. Check with straightedge to see if both sides are equallly distortoted or one side more than other, and use a prying action accordingly. Some rails are more brittle than others and might crack, but it is worth a try. The cheaper laminated bars often pop the spot welds when you do this.

Bar repair

I have a piece of hard steel [4140 pre heat treat] that is ground to .053",that I use,but a screwdriver works well also.To close the gap,I just use a vice.To dress the bar,I use a staionary belt sander.I've repaired a lot of bars, using this method.

Thanks for the info. I tried using the scrench, but I ended up breaking the tip off:( ........
