I went several months ago with a friend to go and bid a white pine removal. He bid it at $2,800 for just getting it down, cutting up the wood, chip the brush, and rake up. Wood stays. The tree was EXTREMELY rotten, and in an afluent area. $2,800 might have been a tad high, but not by much. He didn't get the job. He found out the other day, and relayed to me that somebody else did the job for $800. However, for $800 the company cut it down, raked up, chipped the brush, got rid of the chips, and got rid of the wood.

We spent some time today discussing HOW somebody could actually do that tree for $800 and not do a horrible disservice to the entire industry, or lose the shirt off their back.

I had a nieghbor tell me he had bids for upwards of 4,000.00 to have two 90ft cotton woods removed, 7ft diamiter @ breast, w/ 20" limbs extending 25 to 30 feet over a two story the house. He settled for the local hack who slid in at 1200.00...... amazing......
it took them 3 weeks off and on to do it. I just laughed...:p every day I saw them bust'n there ___'s over it while my small company truned a profit.

Funny now that I think about it, but we tend to get removal jobs when we're the lowest bid.

We chalk up our lower bids to the efficiency of good people and equipment. Of course, that's helpful once you're past the fixed costs.

Why be sour that someone can do it cheaper? Some people just need enough cash to buy beer or smack. Others have to pay for shiny truck and a well dressed crew of poorly skilled lads. Some even pay for insurance.

Efficiency pays. It is a market advantage.
