Anyone ever had a screw come loose on the choke plate and put a hole in the piston on the intake side? It happened on a Jonsered 2040 turbo. Is this a consumer saw? The Zama carb was made in China. I also have noticed on my new Sthil that the Bosch spark plug is made in India and it wouldn't run the saw. I opted for a NGK and the little Stihl 250 runs great.:bang:

bosch plugs

I run the bosch spark plug wsr6f in my saws and I have never had a problem. Sorry to hear about the johnsered saw guess you will have to get a new stihl.

Thanks, Dan. The dealer had a new piston and the jug was not hurt, about $50. and a couple of hours the saw was back at it.
Does that Bosch plug have India on the base? I just wondered if all of the Bosch plugs are made there?

Dingo, it seems that all of the Bosch plugs I have ordered for the shop in the last year have been made in India. Champions are now made in Mexico. I guess jobs being exported isn't unique to the U.S.! I've also noticed those Zama China carburetors in the last couple of years, but I wouldn't have expected a name like Jonsered to be using that cheap stuff.

holy crap, if my Jonesereds have ANY china parts on them, They WILL be sold.

Speaking of days. I was too tired to have a saw in my hand three days ago and my mind wandered as I snipped a 2" maple at ground level---which promptly sprung up to 5 feet above ground level, slowing down only by the dampening effect my face had on it. I know MUCH better, brain was loafing.

Busted lip and sore teeth--and a good reminder to pay attention to even the smallest details in the field. Lip is almost healed now.:dizzy:

The JonnyReds and Huskys are virtually identical, and my 3 year old 346XP has a Chinese Zama carb. It has worked flawlessly so far.

The China Zama runs ok, I was wondering if this is:confused: a saw that was assembled with spare parts, everything looked original, no wrench marks.

The only problem I've seen with choke or throttle plates is when the screw has been repacled. It's peened on the end to stop it from being removed, and when it is, it strips the shaft thread. Loctite isn't enough.. I won't take a throttle shaft apart now unless I replace the shaft, plate and screw.

Oh yeah, lakeside I peaned that screw I replaced real good. I had a guy bring a near new Dodge charger in the garage years back that had a peck in the engine, it was hard to diagnose. I just pulled the heads and there was a little brass screw beat into number 7 piston crown. I guess twice a carb screw gets tangled up with a piston in 35 years doesn't make it too common.

Seems like all companies are in the "low cost country" mode. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out that if the the people in North America are out of work because their plants they worked in were closed, and they can't afford to buy any of their products?

I had a real eye opener at Christmas this year, when I looked at where all the gifts were made. Yep, you guessed it they said "Made in China".

Maybe it only happens if you live in "misery"

Your a luck guy.....heck of a wake up call

Let me tell ya, sometimes if it wasn't for bad luck there wouldn't be any luck at all some days. A smack in the chops is a memorable event, it will feel better when it quits hurting. In the oaks and cottonwoods we look out for the widow makers.

That's my point. A "little" smack in the face reminded me to shut the saw off and go home before something worse happened. AND to pay more attention every time I'm making dust.
