Has this destroyed my chainsaw?

Don't feel too bad about it. I dated a girl who's stepfather was in his 50's and had saws for decades. He bought a new 290 and took it back to the dealer because the chain wouldn't move. The dealer had the brake on when he sold it to him and he couldn't figure it out either.

Waggonwheeler

Yes I had noticed that about the brake on while starting during my quick scan of the manual. I haven't tried it yet as I decided to get the chain properly sharpened because the pointy bit is rounded and there's too much for me to take off.

If it's only a safety issue (and it doesn't really seem a big deal as we have no aminmals around) I won't bother with the brake. Although I suppose it's good to check the brake before starting anyway though. But I will do a search as you say.

Not to be mean but if you didn't realize that there is a chain break on a saw then I must question weither or not you should even be using one. Let me suggest some professional training before you resume use of the saw.

Brake on saw

I have been using an 032 for 24 years , no chain brake , My son bought a used 024 a while back and left it at my house , I thought I would try it out . I started it and gave it gas and the chain wouldn't spin , I called my son and he told me about the chain brake being on , I should take some training to on these new finagled saws . Ted

Let me clarify. I knew about the anti-kickback bar but all I knew is that it stopped the chainsaw. I never actually saw it in operatation, so I didn't know how exactly it stopped the chainsaw. I thought it just disengaged. I didn't realised that it was a chainbrake. I suppose it's obvious now that I think about it.

Don't feel bad gallet, I can't belive I am telling this!!! I put a new chain on my Husky 350 one time could not get the side cover on for anything! Nobody is above a little head up arse syndrome now and again:cheers:
