I grind stumps as a side buisness. This spring was decent, not what last year was but not bad. Since about mid may, work as pretty much stopped. Summer is normally slower but never dead like it is now. Wondering If anyone else is in the same boat.

Same here. After the storm, we were crazy busy. Carried me through the winter and into spring. I was as busy as I could handle part time.

Bout 2 months ago, it's like the light switch was turned off. Got a couple jobs for tomorrow, but that's the frist time I've started my grinder in 2 weeks.

The big spring rush was not big. Usually I am swamped but this year is worse then last year. Most of the tree guys in my area are real slow which means that I am slow. The Rayco dealer in southern WI and northern IL went out of business because nobody is buying anything. Hope to get enough work to pay the bills. Please buy american made!

The spring rush was slower but I was cautiously optimisic. I was looking at buying a bigger self propelled but now am glad I don't have the payments. I'm taking advantage of the free time, getting a lot of prodjects done and fixing up equipment.

I've bid a few jobs and bid them pretty cheap and still didn't get them. I guess I'll not work before working too cheap.

slow here.... but I think all the rain has alot to do with it. Noone wants you on their lawn when it's soggy. On the few sunny days my phone rang off the hook..... Mike

That's another thing that has dried up here. Rain. We are near drought conditions. Several areas are under a burn ban.

Stump grinding work is very slow here. The tree companies who refer stump work to me have been slow all year. I am lucky to still be working on a big land clearing project that has been ongoing for the past 18 months.
I sure hope things pick up before I complete that job later this year.

Things have been dead here all year. I don't grind stumps, but a guy that does said he's in the same boat I'm in.
I do thinning on private land mostly, by this time last year I was booked through November. This year I'm picking up a little here and a little there. I'm doing things for a living that I haven't done in years, like running my portable band mill. It's hard to make a living with a portable mill, but I've got 2 jobs coming up with it, and a job is a job. Right now I'm clearing a spot for a new house to go in, and that's about it for the foreseeable future.
I'll be glad when the economy picks up a little.

Andy

I went through 2 different companies this year and ended up going back to work for myself. I have no advertisement what so ever so its pretty bad but I have very low overhead cept for bobcat payments. Anyway, Im getting just enuff to make rent and payments. Im bidding stuff as low or lower than I did when I was 19 in a pickup truck and still not getting most of it. I bet this winter is going to be lots of fun. For the first time ever Im thinking about getting a plow truck. I cant even stock enough firewood cuz nothins gettin cut down.
