Hey, I run a Morbark 17 currently but the CA reg is going to run out so Im going to have to by a 2007 model or newer chipper. Im against payments, no thanks, been there done that. Anyway the only used 2007 unit I can afford is a Vermeer BC 1000Xl. I have run Bandits and Morbark for my entire career. Please give me some feed back on the vermeer. Thanks

We run a 2001, bought it with 1000hrs on it, and they run great and are very reliable, just keep to the greasing schedule, oil changes, and knives sharp etc... it will work great for you! I've never ran a morbark, but like the vermeer better then the Bandit. Maintenance is also fairly easy, everything is accessible, and easy to get at.

Just exactly what reg is changing? Just curious why you are being forced to buy something you may not want, need or can afford.

have to agree. In my expirence the vermeers are to computer controlled its to safe..............:msp_mellow:

You'll want to keep the Morbark around for a while so that you can run the Vermeer through it.

vermeer is not impressive

Thier motors are weak sauce. And the electronic saftey features always end up breaking on the back of the machine causing someone to hold the overide button so it will chip.

After the one we had i wouldnt be given one.

It all depends if you have never used a Brush bandit then a vermeer will probably seem like hot ####.

Vermeer........ STAY away customer service sucks and machines are not what there cracked up to be..... I had a bc1000xl found it to be under powered and had lots of problems with the autofeed I'am now running a older Morbark 12'' and it will eat the Vermeer alive hands down. Maybe service is a little different here in Canada than the States but over all *&^% service and customer support!!!!

I just bought a new 990XP 12" fully loaded and have had nothing but chips flying out of it. We have been processing large cottonwoods, fir, birch, Ponderosa Pine and cedar no problems at all. Two guys chucking wood all day long with nothing but sweat and blisters for weeks. The 100hp Cat is quiet and reasonably powerful and servicing is straight forward. All the access is as it should be. No plastic or fiberglass parts!! By comparison Vermeer is not built as robustly as the Bandit not by a long shot.

I wouldn't get vermeer either. I have a 2003 xl that has so far been very reliable and a good machine, but they rape you on parts. They wanted over a grand for a new radiatior.... ridiculous. Compared to other chippers I have used the bc1000 is pretty weak, but for the price it is hard to beat. The main weekness is only a single feedwheel with manual adjustments, my next chipper with definitely have dual feedwheels. Another thing I don't like is that if the chute gets clogged it is a huge pain in the ass to unclog it. We ended up cutting and welding on a trap door to alleviate that issue. Oh and I have used the newer ones with the stupid green buttons on the side.... something always goes wrong with that safety system. Thankfully mine doesn't have that.

CA reg law

Thanks for all your feedback I have read similar things in the past about vermeer, to put a Ca legal diesel engine into my morbark would cost 13k just for the engine thats to install it myself and I would go that route if my Morbark wasnt a 1990 million hour machine that is held together with bailing wire. dont get me wrong i love the machine its just completely worked, but I think Im going to get another 2year extention, God willing. That would put me into a position to save up for a Bandit drum or a Morbark if work improves.

The deal with CA law is called a tier 1,2,3,4 and 0 engine. If they catch you 1s 2s or any machine that isnt air reg the fine is double the price of a brand new unit equal to your current chipper. tier zero is the ticket, The engines alone cost 20k for 12inch models. Its disgraceful. You know My wife and kids, family and church is here so here I stay.

I run a 2001, bandit model 90, 37hp wiscon. can handle 9" logs .....any chipper under 50hp in CA is CARB exempt and registration is around $38 for 5 years....I wanted to go this route, very little out of pocket, which is surprising in CA

My BC1000xl has been nothing but good to me. I haven't run other machines but my 2002 w/ 1300 hrs runs great. The power is all I need, can handle without problem 12" logs and has never clogged. Keep up with your maintenance and keep the blades sharp. I'm not familiar with any saftey controls on the 2007 if they exist but I would get another Vermeer based on what I have seen so far.
