I was at HD this weekend and thought I would stop in to see if they had any Makitas for sale, and they did! It's a 2 year old 6401, and the P&C were changed a year ago. They want $205 for it. I wish I had seen that before I got my 5100!

OK school me please. By the looks of it the Makita is made by Dolmar? Is it a good saw? I know nothing about them.

None that have 6401s when I want one. Seriously, though, if you can snag it I'll buy it.

none around here either. we have a (s)lowes, but its not much good for anything. well ok, they have good deals on light bulbs.
I have a few guys keeping their eyes open for me, so far, nothing yet.
you realize that if you dont buy that saw, you are gonna wish you did.....

I thought those Makita's looked an awfull lot like Dolmars...A friend of mine has one,he doesn't do a whole lot of cutting,he owns a grading business,but I've used his a couple of times and thought it really did well..I'm not sure which model he has...It was bought the summer of 01'...and it still runs well.
No I won't. I have only cut wood with the 5100 a twice in 2 months. Don't try to talk me into a bigger saw Ralph.
CU, i have been watching my HD and if I ever time it right when the two 6401's go for sale i will check them out. They should be at about 20 months old now and they have to have a certain percentage of rental income before they will sale them, what I was told by guy in charge of sales.
I dont need one now, but do you want one that checks out when it happens in the future, or do you want me to pm you first and then buy?
We'll see how things go with RB trying to grab one first.
My HD sold theirs off again without me seeing them for sale, despite the fact I stop by once a week. The old rental dept. manager was supposed to give me a call when they were about to come up for sale, along with a couple other pieces of equipment I was eyeing. But alas, he got transferred and the new folks are unwilling to help me out on this.
I figure that anyone who sees these saws for sale should just buy 'em. That's been my plan - buy any and all I can find, resell the good ones at cost to AS folks who want one, and then eBay the rest. But ever since I settled on this plan I have not been able to score a single one. Figures, right?
I'll drop by there tonight. I have 9 HDs in my area. I should stop by some of the other ones and see if they have any for sale. I can just give them my number and tell them to call me when they have one coming up for sale.

My local HD had 6 for sale in Dec. $225 apiece. I offered to buy all 6 if they would give me a deal. They said nope. Price was set by headquarters. In Jan. they took them off sale & won't talk about selling even one of them now. Policy is set by headquarters & HQ says they are not on sale any more.
