Little Cypress, Texas

Right on the TX LA border If you leave my house headin North and turn east at the first road, (West Bluff rd.) and drive 1.8 mi. you will be at the west bluff banks of the Sabine River and that would be cajun land on the other side:jester:

I got mine brand new at toolbarn.com and then bought a new top end for a Dolmar 7900 and it was still cheaper than you can get a new Dolmar 7900 for and it comes with a bar and chain unlike the 7900. Makita blue looks better to me and I have heard that they are going to make the Makitas the same color as the Dolmars next year.
here is a movie with 7900 topend some mild porting and a pipe.

Pipe size

Hello,
I like the pipe you made for your Makita 6401, but how do you know what size to make? Thanks

Basso

I used a computer program for motorcycles and just typed in all the info they ask for and prints out all the dimensions. the only thing i am not sure of is they ask for the maximum RPM of engine, but did not explain if I put what the rev limiter kicks in at or what i want the pipe to kick in at so i split the diffarance and put 13000 rpm

Interesting...until I read this note:

Please note: This item cannot be sent to California due to emission control laws.

Sigh. I love Kalifornia.... :bang:

I was at HD this weekend and thought I would stop in to see if they had any Makitas for sale, and they did! It's a 2 year old 6401, and the P&C were changed a year ago.

Well, since I finished my 044 last night I finally tore the 6401 down today. If they changed the P/C a year ago you sure wouldn't know it:

Exhaust side:

The cylinder feels like it could be cleaned up. The saw had pretty good compression and ran strong, but the piston sure doesn't look that good. Oh well, no loss - it'll be a 7901 before too long.

 Yup, gonna have a pair of 79s once this one is done. This one might end up as a play-only saw, though. We'll see.

So..........can you buy a piston only for the 6401???

I'm sure I could, but it would still be 64cc and what fun would that be?

Well, you told me not to bother pulling the muffler because of your plans to turn it into Frankensaw.:D
