Hi,
I live in the foothills of the Front Range in Colorado, and have a couple pieces of empty property in the southern Rockies. I'm a homeowner that is cleaning up dead trees around my house, clearing slash for fire reasons, and gathering 6-8 cords of firewood every year. I am also working on clearing back overgrowth on roads around my place. Grew up helping gather firewood and helping my Dad and Grandpa keep therir places clean. Still trying to get better at chain sharpening.
- Husqvarna 455 Rancher
- Makita battery saw
- Craftsman 2.6 cu. in. with a 18" bar
The Rancher is new this year, replaced a Stihl MS-261 C-M that had warm start problems from the beginning, never felt right either, bogged down too easily. Stihl was less than helpful on the warranty side. Was sent in four times, three of which they kept it 2-3 months. Makita is great for lite work but batteries don't last long enough. Craftsman was my grandfathers he used to trim his 60 ft oak tree every other year. Barely looks used, he used it probably 15 years. I got it when he passed but haven't tried to get it running. Had an old Husqvarna X-Torq that ran great over 15 years. Retired four years ago when it broke a 'bulkhead' and kept breaking the fuel line to the priming bulb. Couldn't replace the bulkhead unfortunately. Was a good firewood saw, and still ran well.
Joined here to try and learn about chain sharpening plus help with trying to pick a smaller saw for all my slash clearing and limbing from the ground.View attachment IMG_3077.JPG
