I'm sure this has been posted a 100 times already but I need some opinions and fast.

I just sold my pellet stove (tired of dealing with it) and want to switch to wood. This past weekend I was out cutting on a permit and getting fallen dead stuff.

I'm kinda on a budget for a stove and from what I've read before the Englander NC30 is a great choice but will the wood I've been cutting be dry enough for it this winter? My house is a little over 1500 square feet. Also are there any budget options for a wood/coal stove?

I doubt any wood you have cut this late in the season will be ready to burn. It just doesn't dry out enough in log state even if its been dead. Unless its been dead for several years, then you might get lucky. But even then, its likely still to wet.

I'd love a blaze king but thats out of my price range.

As far as wood, I do have a few cords over at my mom's house that I cut for her years ago and she doesn't burn so I'm planning on getting that.

Depends on where you're at in PA, but I just saw a nice Lopi in Cumberland, MD for $600 obo on Craigslist tonight. That's a bit pricey, but they're great stoves. I've got two of them. I think he was even throwing some pipe.

DO NOT get the Lopi Leyden. Other stoves of Lopi may be good, but the Leyden is not. I have a Blaze King now - darned expensive, but worth it. Others around here say that Jotul is good.
I've got a Patriot and an Answer....I think they're both from the mid 90's.

Ive had my NC30 going on 9 years and love it. Heats my 1800 Sqft house without issue. Seasoned wood is a must. I did get away with standing dead elm my first year but it was a struggle. Mixed in pallet wood and checked the chimney often.

I just bought an NC 30 in the spring, so I'm anxious to get burning with it. It's not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but it does seem VERY sturdy/well built. I could barely scoot the pallet across my garage floor by myself. I have also heard nothing by good reviews on it, which is why I bought it. I haven't checked to see if the following is still valid, but if it is, buying this stove at this price is a no brainer. A previous post by brenndatomu: "Get back on HD's site, set "your store" to #1534 Durango Colorado and watch what happens to the price :happybanana: add $99 to that and it gets dropped in your driveway...unbeatable wood heating value! (I bought one and I don't even need a stove!)" - It was $660 delivered to my back door when I bought it.

Do it once and do it right , it ends up cheaper

I found the thread this past year about making that your store and getting a killer price. I was looking at it last week and I could have had it dropped to my door for $860 and I just checked again and they must have just jacked the price back up because now it's $899 which is the same as my local store.

Check your local Craigslist for a Shenandoah wood stove. They had round and square ones. They are pigs as far as efficiency goes but they burn anything you put in them, coal or wood. They have a nice thermostatic air damper on the door and heat up fast but can hold coals a long time. Make sure it has a good grate in the bottom and good for brick. They typically sell for less than 300.
