Need to put a bid on a job and wanted to see where you guys would be on it. Homeowner has 13 trees he wants dropped because he is building a patio. No cleanup and I think all but two will fall just by notching and dropping. Two will probably require shooting a line up in them and pulling them over, possibly climbing, but I don't thinks so. Just trying to come up with a price that's reasonable. I was going to be around $75 for the ones I just notch and drop and probably $125-$150 or so for the two that need pulled over. Sound about right? In the picture you can see the trees w/ orange tape around them. Biggest ones are only about 18" DBH.

Del_ is dead on right about the mess. Sell the customer on the chipping of brush too. Three guys with a good chipper should be able to drop the trees and chip the brush in a day. Leave logs for either firewood or portable sawmill. Faster and cheaper in the long run, compared to the time and cost of cleaning up a 13 tree CF.

I agree with the mess aspect, but he states that he will clean it up and wants the wood to burn. Thought I might be a little high on the price, but just making sure I am a little high vs. underbidding the job. You can always come down, but adding to a price is something I won't do once a job is done. I feel if I bid a job too low that is my fault.

$1000+ for laying those things over??? and you don't have to touch them once there on the ground? hell I'd do it for free this cutting trees down thing is FUN:D but seriously I wouldn't hesitate to do that job for 5 bills maybe a little less easy money. is he going to get other bids cause I bet he could find some guy to do it for 200 bucks if he looked around a bit. just be carful not to shock him with the price when he could go buy a wild-thing and do it himself cheap

Don't bid it per tree but by how much time you will be on the site. Judging from the picture it should go fairly quickly. If you charge $100 per hour, do you think you will be there for 10 hours? I think you are too high on this one.

Seems a wee high from where i am sitting! (is the guy a rich jerk ?maybe a lawyer or car sales man, loud mouth?Helps justify it for me!) Just kiddin!

Glad I asked. Sounds like I'm a little high. I will pull the bid down a little before I see the homeowner Sunday. Thanks for the input. I hate bidding jobs sometimes.

oddly i just did 13 trees on friday, all between 12 and 24 inch, droped all but one, which i climbed and topped half way, and 3 of them had bad back lean that require some major perswation to go the opposite direction, chipped all the brush except for 2 that landed in the woods. bucked most of the wood into 4 lengths, this took me 6 hours and i charged 600 bucks 2 guys, 2 loads of chips

Going by what my boss would charge for a job like that it sounds like you were about 1000 bucks short on that bid. Just say-in

sounds like you should have been about double that price on that one.

you need to consider......

The cost of living between Fredricktown MO and Litchfield CT. I'd say there is a BIG difference!

That may be true, but I think they were refering to the other job in western MA that dts99 did. I think the prices there may compare a bit better to CT.

Here's what happened...

Got to the job today. Homeowner decided to leave a few so ten trees to drop. Told him I would do it for $100/hour. Dropped 4 trees with just a wedge, 3 dropped with wedge and landowner giving a little extra push with small 35 horse tractor, and 3 required tossing a rope up in them and pulling over with a comealong. Took 2.5 hours to drop, delimb, and buck in 8' sections. This was with stopping several times and talking with him about hunting, business, etc... Had fun doing it and made $250 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I'm not gonna complain.
