Help with Gas Can purchase....

Maybe I can borrow a camera (mine died). Anyway....

You use a round hunk of aluminum, about 1/4 thick. Tap a 1/8 in. pipe hole in it, and use some sealer. 3/8 nipple from hardware store. Cut a gasket and use the "nut" that fits the can. For the stopper, find a 3/8 smooth shaft (old bolt) and drill a hole across it for a roll pin.

The vent cap isn't really manditory, I fill my saw by simply squeezing the can a few times. I would suppose that a 1/2" version would flow better :)

Pat, this is an awesome idea. I've wanted to get a few old Gott/Rubbermaid containers back in service and this sounds like it will do the trick. Thanks for sharing!

used to want a combo can, but came to the conclusion... why?

already got a gallon oil jug and a justrite safety can w/spout.
what else do ya need?

IMO the combi-can's are superb, theyre big enough for day in the woods (~6l of gas and ~3l of bar oil), you can carry files and wrenches on it and they have overfill-protection....

Blis...I'm with you, I've got one of those too.
Does NOT spill, easy to carry, everything in one place, oil, gas and tools. The transport caps are fastened to the can too, so they don't get lost, and they double as a cap for when the spouts are out, a well thought out product. Oh yes, they are TOUGH, thick sturdy plastic.
Have NOT come across anything better.

Ooh the misery, the pain in the astrisk

This may be a trivial question or not on topic question but here goes... I want a gas can that is Plastic, When the pouring spout is on it does not leak vapor while in shed, is easy to refill without removing a funnel or struggling with a major spring action cap, has non overflow spout and does not have a a second cap for venting. WOW I am picky.

So far I have found the BriggsStratton SmartFill fuel container...my question is do you have to insert the entire spout into the machine fueling cap to get any gas to come out or can you tilt it just a bit and it will still pour ?

Also have found Blitz Self Venitng Cans and Spill Proof cans....I want the 2+ gallon size and the grip on th eback of cans looks unstable...

Any help with these or advice on others is appreciated:crazy1:

I got one of those B&S BS smart-fill cans "free" (why isn't free stuff a bargain? I'd have paid extra to have never dealt with that POS can)when I bought my Troy-Bilt mower years ago. If I had a dollar for every time I've said 'naughty words' using that thing, I'd be a gazillionare.

Total PITA to use: Gotta twist the snout 1/8 turn, then either press the contraption down onto the tank, or work it like a syringe (two fingers + thumb to open & hold the valve.) Trust me when I say you DO NOT want to try to dump 2 gal in a Jeep using that thing plus a funnel. The spill to fill ratio is about 2:1.

I believe it was invented by the same pinhead that put those stoopid donkey-donks on the gas nozzles up in the NE. I shudder to think someone spent good money to send the boy to engineer school and that's the best he can come up with? Needs to be "necklaced" with a bald mud-grip soaked in stale gas on Earth Day... with the video shown in Engineering 101 on day one...as a warning to other prospective geniuses-in-training. "Don't Build Stupid Stuff."

My "fix" is to use an old-tech spout & collar that fits the threads. It doesn't 'vent' until ya right the can back up... but it is much less prone to spilling all over the equipment and operator, and the spout actually fits most all fuel tank fill ports.

I want to try one of those for myself. But can't find them in US. Any body sees these anywhere online? Anyone overseas want to send me one? I'll pay the cost and shipping just to check one out.

Anyone?

I love these No-Spill Cans. We have sold them in our store for at least 6 Years or so with positive feedback. http://www.amickssuperstore.com/No_Spill_2_1_2_Gallon_Fuel_Container_p/no-spill%20fuel%20container%202.htm

AMEN!!! Biggest POS I ever had to deal with. If I ever meet the guy who took my old, vented can, I'll finally have a good use for the smart-fill can, by beating him over the head with it. (sorry, no smiley beating another with a gas can)

I got a 5 gallon diesel can like that for filling the mower, and it takes FOREVER for it to drain, with that stupid bubbling through the fill spout thing. (actually, I can't even fill the mower directly because I can't get the spout close enough to the filler. I have to dump it into one of my older cans first! :angry2: ) What retard thought this was an excellent solution?

I really never thought about how special my 1992 one gal plastic mix can with a vent was until now!? It appears all gas cans are illegal now in CA, so don't tell the feds I am non CARB compliant:dizzy:

Maybe you could cut the can in half, hook it to your car, and drag logs with it. :hmm3grin2orange:

SWE#Kipp sent me a link to one of these for sale on ebay and on a whim I bid on it. $22.5 total including shipping for an unused can with a pouch. Seems too good to be true, but I guess I'll find out. It is the first thing I have bought on ebay for about 10 years after getting screwed on some antique hand tools in the past and swearing off ebay.

If/when I get it I'll give a report.

If you don't like the pouch let me know and maybe we can work something out :)

The Accu-mix Jug Is The Best!!

I put forth to y'all a wonderful device made originally for those who race two-stroke motorcycles....

THE ACCU-MIX JUG ----> http://www.accu-mix.com/ :chainsawguy:

Accumix-small.gif

Can be had by ordering online from http://accu-products.com/ , contact online, or by phone or email. The name of the man himself is Rick Merhar and he's a great guy to work with. He is a two-stroke nutcase!

You will see he will ship internationally, as he deals with racers from Japan, OZ/NZ, and from Europe regularly.

This is fantastic for snowmobilers, chain sawers, dirtbike riders, racers, etc!

It can be used to mix anything (herbicides, pesticides, etc!), and has popular mix ratios of 15, 16, 20, 25, 30, 32, 40, and 50:1

It uses 10 units of measurement, and consequently it was designed such that each one unit of fuel/oil mix weighs right at 1.0 pounds. (remember this was originally designed for motorcycle racers where weight is a variable to be minimized!).

The caps to this jug are great and never leak. It has units labeled in std and in metric so its great no matter where on the planet you live! It is easy to grab and hold while pouring, even when filling the full 10 units.

Also check out his other useful products like the Accu-Flo.

He is located in Ohio, USA (Rock River?) right near the Lake.

I love this product it is fantastic, one million uses!:rockn:

hey if this thread is worthy, can it be put in the sticky? I know Rick would appreciate more exposure and, could maybe give a discount to a group buy or if one of the site sponsors picks up being a dealer for his jug, maybe could save a few pennies...

I've raced 2-stroke motorcycles and never had to have any fancy schmancy whizz-bang gas can. Just a Ratio-Rite cup and a plain vanilla 5 gallon race jug.

You guys are goin' off the deep end on this gas can deal... for cryin' out loud... it's just a friggin' gas can!!!:bang:

I dont "need" a fancy mix can for racing, but it sure is nice to be able to make up a ton of gas at once, at the perfect ratio, and get it done quick. Especially because in the cold mornings I'll run around 32-35:1 but when its race time I use 40:1. Better yet, its easy to use so my woman can do it herself while I'm getting ready! And I can take data on how many units it takes per lap, per track,,,, so I can plan on exactly how much gas I need to put in the tank and not be carrying around extra poundage.

Plus, it is just a whopping $20.... hell the sparkplugs in my bike are over $35 !:bang:
