The reason I brought that up, is; I went out to check on my livestock. Bundled up good with a pair of regular leather gloves. Wasn't out there for more than an hour and suddenly my fingers started screaming at me with pain. I knew then that this isn't normal winter weather at 17F and 30mph wind gusts. So plan ahead to take a good pair with you in case they'll be needed. Kinda like Wedges. They ain't much use if you leave 'em at home and your sawbar is hung in a tree.:soldier:

Awww shucks you were not even close to frost bite. When the pain quits is when you need to worry. I used to pheasant hunt and my hands would be blue when I came home, temps usually 8 to 12 degrees. I had not felt them for hours but was still not frost bit, likely because, I was moving and also having too much fun. I guess everyones is different but frostbite takes a little while imo. I will say the pain your feeling is nothing like the pain you get thawing out!

But Who wants to put themselves in that situation if they can avoid it ? What I was getting at is that this system is so harsh that one can get himself in trouble. So just a friendly reminder; " be aware guys". :time-out:

Lol I was a glutton for punishment in them days but it got cold quick today for sure. I was cutting the goodies out of a truck earlier to haul the no needs over the scales and burrrrrr I found that torch awful comfy lol.

Better yet, :fingers-crossed: 3 inches of ice is like a lottery ticket.

I'm already packed, but might not have to even leave here. Chicagoland is going to get hammered hard.

No worries getting around, here's our assault vehicle.

I'm the one crazy enough to work with Treeslayer. That's my rig. As for the dent, wasn't at fault for that one. Guy backed out of a driveway and didn't somehow see the 7200 lbs truck behind him. :disapointed:
As for the rig, It's been on over 500 miles of oil pipeline jobs off road, from Superior, Wisconsin in the middle of winter to Tulsa, Oklahoma in the spring and now doing tree work... Haven't got it buried once. (knocking on wood as I type) She's a good girl and is ready to roll out of here where ever there is going to be storm work.

Have saws, will travel. Anyone chasing ice that needs a hand can get a hold of me, I'm in Gibson City, IL. I'm not going out on my own for this one, (everything but the pickup is in my shop getting a little off season attention) but I might help round out a crew or second crew from the ground if there's a need. I'll drive my pickup and offer room for at least one passenger, two if need be. I work hard, and know how to survive, in any weather, and I don't go home till you do. Might be able to grab a climber, can't speak for him. Not to brag, I have four ice storms as a foreman under my belt, around power, including the 2 inches that swept through down south a couple of years ago. That's not much to some, but it's plenty initial experience. I don't try to run things unless asked to. At any rate, PM me for more details and ph #.

Good luck boys, stay safe, regardless!

Looks good. My kind of truck. I'd just throw a small fladbed dumper on the back and laugh the next time someone hit the bed.

Well? It happened... 18" of snow today in Carthage, MO. Sorry guys... Not enough ice to shred the trees.

That's a good thing. People around here think ice and storms are good for my biz. Can be, but I'd rather not see the damage. You all in Mo. have seen enough in the last few years. I was down that way a few years ago. Stayed in Joplin and worked Baxter Springs, KS to Picher, OK. RIP.

Yup. That one was a lot like utter devastation! 2 weeks without power! Don't care to see that again any time soon...

The wind is howlin through the trees at 50-60 mph as I do more homework now. Not much snow coming down, but the ground blizzard has pasted over the groundfloor windows, and a goodly portion of the upstairs.

We are balls deep in snow. I don't even think I can get my plow truck out of the ally. There is a six foot drift in front of my neighbors garage that I can see from my window.

He will teach you something. Welcome to the site!

Hasnt amounted to a whole lot here. Its def icy out but not that bad. I doubt there is much tree damage around me. I am both let down and relieved at the same time. The last thing anyone needs this time of year is no power. But my phone could easily start ringing later today/tomorrow. I may have to be creative today to figure out where to go and have alittle fun in my 4X4. BTW..that Dodge is sweet, I like those tires. My baby use alot of gas but she sure is a pleasure to drive so it seems worth it to me....

16 degrees, 18" of snow, drifts up to 6', still snowing and blowing hard, and my street is already plowed by the landscapers..... lol
Lake county IL has closed the roads (civil emergency?) along with Kane county.
We are going to ride out later and look for fallen tree damaged areas, but I'm sure my phone will be ringing.
gonna drop well below zero tonight, and hard freeze it all.

Some promising areas for ice accumulation still possible, I'm on it. travel is imminent. thank god.

This is us running firewood late yesterday after the "blizzard condition" was declared.

Lol hey slayer thinsulate can help them hands bro:)

Phone just started ringing here. Quit abit of ice damage and powerlines down around here especially in the higher elevations. Just pulled a guy out of a ditch and tree limbs were breaking all around me. It's little too dangerous to be out in the tree today. They are calling for the winds to pick up later. I think i'll wait untill tomorrow before I start cleaning up. Yippie for ice storms!
