Okay, I worked on my first MS270. I like the way the carb comes off, but man, it is a PITA the get to the intake boot. I have a customer with a year old MS270. The intake boot was cracked right at the cylinder. The rest of the saw looks almost like new yet. Also, this customer swears he went to clean the air filter, and discovered it never had one when he bought it. The local dealer where he bought it should replace the saw IMHO. They won't even give him a new boot, which is outrageously priced at $40 anyway. Have there been some problems with boots on this saw? The anti-vibe system was in excellent shape, so I can't see any reason why the boot was cracked. Is there a cause for the boot failure that I should pass along to my customer or investigate further?

My customer sent an email to Stihl USA, and they responded saying they would cover it under warranty, and that there has been some issues with boot tearing on that saw. Is this possibly related to the soft anti-vibe I've been hearing about on the MS270/280?

Went to pick up the boot at the local dealer today. The dealer had the second saw in the MS270/280 series with a cracked boot.

I hate dealing with this Stihl dealership. I see the bad side of Stihl protecting dealerships like they do. They protect the bad ones as well as the good ones. Even though Stihl is willing to pay for the part under warranty, they won't pay for the part unless an authorized Stihl dealer installs it. My customer doesn't want the local dealership touching their saw, yet alone repairing it, but now, either my customer or myself is out the cost of the part. This job may end up being a freebie. Hopefully the next saw my customer buys is a Dolmar!

That crap is why I won't back the 3 stealerships within 15 miles of my home. Don't like the attitudes or the way stihl does business. Plus they over price everything. What a shame. My brother deals with stihl dealership 3 hrs south on everything, chainsaws, trimmers, etc in southern ohio, he states they treat you like a king down there. Plus the costumer is really taken care of down there, he said they told him to just start leaving his chains on for the machine sharpen and they would take care of everything for just the cost of sharpening. They should start plucking the bad apples.
