Sometimes, once you pull the starter, you may find the chain would turn out at the same time. And you may think the clutch of the chainsaw has broken. 90% of the time, it is the exact reason. But I think there is another reason--the broken or destroyed needle bearing.
 
In some chainsaws, there is a hole going at the end of the crankshaft and coming out to another hole in the side of the crankshaft. So this is a feature to grease the bearing.
