The following numbers are on a home depot bar and i was wondering what they fit? The bar says Home Depot Tool Rental and - 35020MK72TR. Also who would make them.

35020MK72TR Ok the 350 means 3/8 Reg Chain, the next 20 is the called lenghth, the MK is for Makita and the 72 means 72 Drive Links. The TR is Tool Rental which you said was labeled on the bar. This bar will fit other saws Like the big Husky mount but it's private labeled for Home Depot.

What chain will work? Oregon...Stihl etc?

Just a guess here,the 350 might be 3/8 and .050 gauge.

I think that they may be made by a company called TRILINK Saw Chain. As is likely the chain sold at Home Depot.

When it comes to quality, every thing else beats the "Trilink" brand.

HD rental makita DCS-6401 saws w. a 20" bars take a 72 drive link count, 3/8" pitch, .050 guage chain. That is pretty much a standard chain for a number of different manufacturers. It is readily available.

Hey Brad. I had bought a couple of HD rental 6401 Makitas that needed pistons and/or cylinders. They all had brand new laminated, HD-branded, bars & tri-link chains on them. Ended up using one of the bars and all of the chains on my 372XP. I have never used any brand of chain which stretched like these did. The steel was just way too soft. Probably made of re-cycled wok pans. I generally buy Woodsman Pro SC chain from Bailey's. That chain is manufactured by Carlton and it holds up real good for me, and the price is right.

Yep, Makita runs 72 link 3/8" 0.50 gauge chain. Since that is what HD rents, then it is only logical that is what the bar is for (also works on pro Husky saws).

If that bar is as good as the factory Makita one, plan on replacing it. I didn't get through 6 cords before I bent the rails and seized the tip sprocket, even with regular greasing. But, I have been know to be able to break the unbreakable :monkey: Bought an Oregon with replaceable nose, and no issues since. And factory Makita chains bring the suck. Go to Bailey's website, get a decent bar and full chisel chain (I like the WoodlandPro and Windsor) on order, and be happy. Or, get stuff as backup. When you kill that bar, you will have the spare already. You probably won't find a local bar of the same quality for the price.

FWIW, the factory Makita/Dolmar bars on the 6401 are laminated Oregon bars (IIRC Oregon Pro Lite) and Oregon 72V Vanguard (safety) chain

Yep, the chain is the problem, as on Dolmars (unless the dealer is a good one, and change it).....

Well, I paid $150 for my Home Depot 6400 or is it 6401 what ever ...

I've run it in wood once with the tool rental bar and chain - so far so good. It cut well, I also have an extra trilink chain and yesterday I found a Stihl 33RSC72 for $8.95 new. I must be doing something right to find these deals.

Although the Stihl chain is foreign made also, I'll probably hold on to it until I get a Powermatch or equal bar.

HD likely buys the cheapest bars and chain as the customer is going to destroy them anyway. I believe they may install a new chain each time the saw goes out.
