Home made splitter mishap

I've owned this 84, real SS all matching numbers . Complete drive train is on a shelf in the garage. It's now a 496 with autogear m22 Ford 9 inch with 3.54 Yukon gears . Strange 3 1/2 chrome moly with 1350 joints

Not to derail this splitter thread but what do think of that trans?

My thought exactly.
Is the cylinder not attached at the end with a pin on the beam?
My cylinder is 30" stroke and no brace on the rod end. I've never had a problem.

I dont know how I put those pics up in that order but you can see how it's held at the back of the cylinder and why I need the bracket to hold down the front. I just slapped this together 10 or 12 years ago with what I had laying around. It aint pretty (except for that header maybe), but I have made a lot of $ with it and I almost never have trouble with it.

I dont know about Autogear M22..sounds like some sort of a beefed up improved Muncie 4 speed..right? Is there an overdrive gear? That sounds like one bad ass chevelle. I have rebuilt muncie 4 speeds but man it's been a while

Not sure I'm seeing right but it doesn't look like it's held at the back at all. It's just kind of sitting in a pocket? Serious design issue there, get the back of that cylinder anchored solid.

Not anchored at back at all. The rear needs beefed up. turn the cylinder 90 degrees and put an anchor pin through with heavy supports on both sides.

Guess you could say it "sits in a pocket" but it's pretty solid there. Putting a pin through the back of it would take several hours, plus I would probably have to make up some new lines.. and this is my time of year to split all I can, gather all I can, etc etc before the weather gets unbearable. I will probably work on something to keep the cylinder from going towards the wedge if this ever happens again, but it's going to be fast and dirty! One of these days I am gonna build a bigger and better splitter with a 4 way and I'm gonna do that one right!

it appears that there’s no pin at the closed end, and the brace at the front is to restrain it on rod retract. I would put a pin but put it horizontally at the closed end like referred to above, and cut that whole bracket off and get it out of there
