I have one of the little Homelite saws, I have been told it is a super 2. How does one go about getting to the air filter? It is a good running little saw but I haven't cleaned the air filter since I got it and I like to do that as part of the regular clean up routine after each use.

I have a small homelite and there is a black plastic cover by the choke lever that snaps out giving access to the filter. Mine is a green foam type filter. Hope this helps.

DustyTools is absolutely right. The piece if plastic that surrounds the carb where the jets and the choke lever are located snaps out and the filter is behind this. There were 2 different styles of foam depending upon the year it was made. The foam just sits in an aluminum form attached to the carb.

homelite 340

I have a Homelite 340 that I believe is a rebadged Solo 654. If I unscrew and remove the top black cover (this covers most of the top of the saw) the air filter is in plain view. It is squarish in shape and looks life the actual fabric cannot be replaced, meaning that the air filter comes as its own whole component. The fabric is this very fine plastic mesh that is stretched across a frame of black, hard plastic. The choke lever is integrated into the frame and is part of the air filter unit.

The air filter unit is removed by unscrewing a large flat head screw and then lifting the unit out of its seat.

I have not been able to find a replacement for this air filter online and that includes going to Homelite's website. I think I may have better luck looking for a Solo 654 replacement air filter.
