I was helping an elderly friend with his mowers, sharpening blades, oil change ext. When it was time to go he offered to pay me. I noticed an old bar behind a few boxes and asked if I could look at it. Help yourself was his reply.I pulled down a Homelite C 5 saw. The engine was free and had good compression.
To make it short I wound up with the saw. When I got home I pulled the spark plug. It looked fine. I turned on the switch and pulled. A hot white spark appeared. This thing may run! I filled the tank and did not spot any leaks.I put some mix into the carb and gave it a couple of pulls.
It started then died. I closed the choke and after 3 pulls this thing roared to life. The saw had been sitting on the shelf for close to 28 years. It runs perfectly. I pulled the cover off and looked at the drive sprocket. Very minimal whear. The saw is loud and does have some normal vibration. It has a mannual oiler that works. On the decal it says, Convertable Drive, Direct drive. When it idles the chain stops. It responds well to carburator adjustments.SN1469657. Is this saw worth anything to anyone? I hope I have not over stepped my bounds here. Any replys would be welcome, Thanks Ken

Well, the convertable drive is one where it can be used I believe as a direct drive or geardrive saw, value, not sure. I have no use for it. already got 3 project saws on my list, one coming now, one soon to be coming, and one that will come eventually.

If you are fishing for a sale put it in the used equipment forum.

Thats better! :)

This thread was MOVED from the chainsaw forum.

I think that Mange added "that's better" after the move (judging from the fact that he edited his post). Not that I'm trying to speak for Mange; our friend from Sweden needs no help from me.

The only post I see is in the used equipment forum thus I am confused at why he is told to put it in the used equipment foru. Where are we now ? We are in the used equipment forum. Wen he was told to put it in the used quipment forum I responed "it is" because it was in the used equipment forumat that point. If it was originally put somewhere else it does not indicate that in any of the posts.

My origional post was ment to offer collectors a chance to enhance their possibility of collecting a good running piece of equipment True, if a reasonable amout was offered, I may make consider a sale. My origional intent was to offer this saw possibly to a collector.Old saws are like old John Deer tractors. Some of them just keep on chugging. Being a person with back spinal injuries me (L4-L5 )this saw is more than I am able to cope with. I was doing an elder gentleman with little cash a favor.Ken.

Bill--At the time that I'm writing this,

it is showing on page 2 in the CS forum as moved; it was on page one earlier today. It may be page 3 or even further back depending on what time you read this.

Kenskip1--I added this bit when I saw that you had responded. I'm/we're not getting at you. Lot's of folks post in the CS forum & casually ask if there's any interest in a saw, & some just straight out offer a saw for sale. No big deal, just keeps the moderators on their toes ;) . Just think of it as a friendly reminder, nothing more.

BTW sounds like you wound up with a nice saw. Hope that you & a lucky collector hook up!

It is showing up in both forums. It was is the Used Equipment when I saw it and the entire time I responded. If you look at the post in CS it says "moved". It was moved. It is a used equipment question. I giess we are beating a dead horse at this time.

My c5, and c7 both say convertible drive, but I am not sure these are convertible, and if they are there must be parts added.

Mine is The Evil twin of Lewis Branders I think, it is in the wurst condition possible, I think.

Bill, next time read the "reason for edit", it can clear a few question marks I think. It helped me more than once.

Ray, Thanks for the zippy reply.I dare not place the saw next to my Two Stihls! It is a shame as this saw runs very well.I will let it set and mabie someone will make me an offer. thanks, Ken
