I have cad disease!
Just bought a homelite 35 will post pictures soon . cuts like a charm all 53cc of it
Question about the 7-29. Acres site says the belt drive is a 2.75:1 reduction. Does that mean when the engine is spinning a 2750 rpm the chain is spinning at 1000? So, at WOT of 5000 rpm, the chain will be going a little less than 2000? Thanks, Joe.
Chain speed is measured in feet per second, this eliminates the variable caused by different bar lengths.

Any info on the saw I bought
it also has a fairly good anti vibe set up.I believe that the 35 was limited to the Canadian market and came out in the early 1990's. It is 57 cc's (same size as the SuperXL) but it had a chainbrake.
I didn't ask my question in an accurate way. I understand the chain speed and bar length thing. I often explain to folks that if the chain is going 10 miles per hour on a 48" bar and you put a 24" bar on, the chain is still going 10 miles per hour, that doesn't change. It just takes that first tooth longer to get to the end and start coming back on the longer bar.
My question was about the ratio reduction. I've never run a gear drive and every one talks about the torque and grunt of a gear drive. Last year I was super pumped up when a friend gave me a Wiz Super 77 Gear Drive, but, before I got it running some low life stole it. Now I've got this 7-29. It's a 2.75:1 belt reduction. So, I assume the chain will be spinning slower than the engine, but with lots of torque. Even though it's not a gear reduction, it's still a belt reduction, of almost 3 to 1. I should have the same effect running it as I would with the Super 77, with a much bigger engine. So, I guess my real question is, if I get this saw running right, stick it in a 30" White Oak log and lean on it, will it cry, whimper, and bog down, or laugh and say I got 20 more inches of bar, go get a bigger log, Joe.
