Building hot saws can cost as much as you want it to. In our case we have about 1000.00 dollars to work with. Surly some milling and a fue old secrets wont cost nearly that much. Especially when your buddies with a machinist

Good point there. its great to have some friends with tools to do what you want to do. being well connected helps a lot for people like me with little money.
