Hi, I'm hoping someone out there might be able to help me out with a problem.

I have a Homelite Super Mini...thats what it says on the side, im having problems finding it online...maybe too old. I can find XL Mini, i dont know if its the same thing. Anyways... the manual oiler is no longer working. Ive taken it apart enough to isolate the problem but not sure what to do next. The problem has been isolated to the oil leaving the tank and entering the tube which runs to the oiler hole by the bar.

There is a silver coloured mechanism behind the sproket the chain rides on which im not too sure what role, if any, it plays in the oiling system other than its where the black rubber tube attaches.

I have taken an air compressor to the lines and the tank pressurizes and leaks out the top of the tank, it will not make it through the "silver thing". Im not sure if its just supremely clogged or if this silver part is gone and needs to be replaced. Ive also blown out the hose attached to the silver thing and leads to the oiler hole in the bar and it is 100% clear. So im fairly certain it is the problem.

Ive searched for help online and thought that this forum might be able to help out. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Also, anyone know where to order parts for the Homelite Super Mini? Ive asked at a Stihl dealership today (also have a Stihl) but they are not sure if they will be able to find parts for it.

Thanks

Dave

Don't waste your time with anything Homelite related at a Stihl dealership, all they want to do is sell you some $400 MS something. Contact edgeandengine or lawnmowertech37, they both have good selections of hard to find Homelite parts and would be glad to help you get your Homie going again.

dave Welcome to Arboristsite

you say it says Homelite super mini on the side cover correct ?
can you look on there and tell me if it says the letter S after the word mini ?

also on the saw should be a tag with a serial # right above the serial # there should be a 5 -6 digit number preceded by a UT i can diffinitly tell which saw you have with that # now for some reason if it says UT- 10459 that is difinitely a Super Mini S and if that is your saw it shows you have a automatic oil pump which will be part # A65212B but dont take my word for it yet till we confirm your model #

tell me if this looks like your saw ?

thanks

once we confirm the correct saw we can then go from there to troubleshoot the system

as for parts me or kyle or some of the others on here may have parts available
but first we need to confirm its a super mini S

Home Super Mini Oiler problem

Hi Calvin, thanks for the reply. And thanks to AngelofDarkness for the referral.

The Homelite is just a Super Mini (has a checked flag on the red side cover with the words Super Mini). There is no S. The oiler push button is on the left hand side. I found the same diagram you posted in your reply using Google, but my saw is very slightly different than that. It doesnt have part 26 (although mechanically i dont think that makes any difference at all).

The numbers off the saw are 50126 and UT is T8002085

Also, i know the sproket the chain rides on needs to be replaced. There are 3grooves in the metal from where the chain makes contact. If you are able to identify the saw and part for the oiler would you also be able to tell me the part number for the sproket? (I believe its part 48 in the picture below)

This is the first time I've had any issues with this saw and I've used it for over 10 yrs, its originally my moms. Ive recently bought 22.5 acres and been using the saw a lot cutting down trees, so things are starting to break now and the city I live in doesnt have any Homelite dealers or parts places...mainly Stihl. I'd like to be able to fix it rather than spend hundreds on a new chainsaw. If anything im getting to know the chainsaw well, this is the first time ive had it apart to the degree it is...usually just needs some cleaning and its good to go.

Thanks for the assistance so far.

how big is your city ?

and what city is it ?
you say you do not have any repair shops there just stihl ? just curious what is the population in your area i guess you wandering why all these questions its just my dad wants to sell out and move away from the ocean front so im all out for that myself

been stuck here in NC coast for 39 years time for a change

homelite dealership is not very good news cause they lost there quality when john deere sold out and they went to china for everything

i say anywhere from 2000 or older is the better quality stuff on the homelite market

now i am going to have a hard time trying to locate the ipl to this super mini so what i will need to do is just keep looking may have to call and get a parts list out of the archives

now that we know its not a S series mini we need to find the correct parts list

thanks

Hell, if for no other reason I would want to fix it up because it was your mom's saw. That's something you really don't hear very often. I know of several Dad's that pased saws down but not to many mom's. Good luck!!

i wonder why they get a bad rep also much better than todays saws i tell you that besides does china make a saw that will last over 20 years ?
i doubt that seriously they be something to make a saw that will last 6 months

i rather see USA brand made units
and have USA brand name parts

I have no parts lists for the Super Mini, but I'm thinking it's a Canadian/international model...

. Why do Homelites get such a bad rap?

What a silly question. I thought you, AOD have been around long enough to know why some people call most other brands of saws junk. They know no better. Most have never even used the saws that "they" call junk, let alone repair one.

Well the new ones are not that great, and Homelite had some weaker models, the 330 and XL weren't their best saws but they got the job done, can't say much bad about the 360's 450's 750's and SXL's. And just being a bit heavy doesn't make a saw "crap". I'd rather have a heavy saw that lasts instead of a plastic one that will fall apart.

The new saws are not true Homelites, just in name only, same as the new Macs. Bob McCulloch would roll over in his grave if he seen the saws today that grace his name. I agree with you, they are not much. The Homies that were Textron produced and the ones built in Canada are true Homelites. I do admit their quality started lacking toward the end even with Textron, but you can say the same for most companies compared to the quality of their products from 20 years ago to today. Some consider the old saws junk, I like to refer to them as classics worth the trouble it take to keep em going.

i would have to say one good thing that did take place and that is Homelite Textron pressure trash pumps and etc. all the pump line that textron had did not go to John Deere it went to the homelite pump division and Riverside pumps is what they call them today those pumps are still on the market today and made in south carolina they are not made overseas

the reason i dont get very big demand on parts for them is cause they last for a long time

back then Homelite also owned the Jacobsen product line of jacobsen snowblowers and mowers back in 95 Homelite was still operating in Charlotte nc

so they do have a good history when textron had them that was the true homelite i believe and parts are still out there even though the homelite parts store on homelite website says its not available anymore thats where me and kyle and some others in this country come into play at we do not believe in making something obsolete we want to see quality built products no matter the year on the unit

of course parts may cost a little higher than getting a new machine but the quality is what counts

that also applys to the other brands too such as McCullochs

and some poulan models S25DA 245A 306A xxv etc. them models were built tough for a poulan

When I first started to cut with my dad in 1996 he told me Homelites and McCulloch;s were junk and gave me a hard time for using my grandpas (mom's dad's) SXL-AO. Until one day when I was smoking his 015AV in some big white oak, the Homie trash talk stopped right then and there.

I'd like another SXL-AO, that was a good saw, I should have never traded it in.

There's millions of them still out there, finding a good used one shouldn't be hard, or for that matter, a bad one to fix up. They had to be HL's most popular saw. I have seen some so filthy and gunked up that it was hard to tell it was even a saw. They haven't been used in years, but all it takes is a little carb work and they are ready for more punishment. The only bad thing about them is that they will make you tingle.
